About The Position

The Manager, Technical Training leads the strategy, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Alterman’s technical and operational development programs. This role is primarily responsible for developing field supervisors, including foremen and other frontline field leaders, and for strengthening the technical, operational, and leadership capabilities of employees across Alterman’s project management career path. This role partners closely with Operations, Safety, Human Resources, project leadership, subject matter experts, and the broader Learning and Development team to ensure programs are practical, scalable, measurable, and aligned with Alterman’s business priorities and core values of Safety, Ownership, Craftsmanship, and Continuous Improvement.

Requirements

Previous experience serving as a Foreman in the electrical construction industry required, with demonstrated responsibility for leading crews, coordinating field operations, and developing employees.
Strong field leadership and communication skills; able to build credibility with craft employees, field supervisors, project leaders, and executives.
Able to coach and develop field supervisors, Learning Champions, trainers, and direct reports through clear expectations, practical feedback, hands-on support, and accountability.
Strong planning and follow-through; able to coordinate training across active projects and markets while accounting for manpower, production schedules, travel, and operational demands.
Partners with field leaders, Project Managers, Safety, Operations, and subject matter experts to identify performance gaps and validate training against Alterman’s work practices.
Uses sound judgment to balance employee development with project schedules, customer commitments, field productivity, and safety.
Comfortable learning Microsoft Office, Teams, Cornerstone, and basic training technology for schedules, materials, participation, and reporting.
Adapts training plans when project priorities, staffing, market needs, or construction schedules change.

Responsibilities

Develops and executes a comprehensive technical-training strategy aligned with Alterman’s workforce needs, operational priorities, geographic growth, and business objectives.
Establishes structured development pathways for field supervisors and project management employees.
Translates operational needs into practical learning solutions that improve safety, leadership, productivity, quality, consistency, and workforce readiness.
Establishes annual priorities, implementation plans, governance, resource requirements, and success measures for technical training programs.
Leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of Foreman Foundations and other development programs for foremen and frontline field leaders.
Provides overall leadership, governance, and strategic direction for the Learning Champion Program across Alterman’s markets.
Provides oversight of the Learning Champion Program to ensure Learning Champions are appropriately recruited, selected, prepared, certified, scheduled, supported, and evaluated.
Partners with the Learning Champion Program Manager and Operations to address scheduling, protected preparation time, participant completion, and application of learning on the job.
Maintains consistent standards for facilitator readiness, content knowledge, delivery quality, certification, and ongoing development.
Provides oversight of the implementation of Alterman’s Project Manager Development Program.
Partners with senior project leaders and subject matter experts to define the knowledge, behaviors, systems, and experiences required across the project management career path.
Coordinates curricula, learning activities, job aids, assessments, practice assignments, and on-the-job application opportunities.
Ensures program content reflects Alterman’s operational standards, financial expectations, project-management systems, processes, and customer commitments.
Establishes clear program milestones, ownership, implementation schedules, and measures of participant readiness.
Provides leadership, direction, coaching, and performance management to direct reports.
Establishes clear goals, responsibilities, priorities, and performance expectations for direct reports.
Ensures team members maintain strong relationships with field employees, project teams, operational leaders, and subject matter experts.
Builds a culture of accountability, collaboration, responsiveness, customer service, and continuous improvement.
Coordinates team workload and resources to support company priorities across multiple markets.
Serves as the primary Learning and Development partner for field and project-management development.
Builds trusted relationships with executives, Operations, Safety, Human Resources, project leaders, field supervisors, and other internal partners.
Facilitates steering committees, advisory groups, and working sessions that guide technical-training priorities and program design.
Communicates program status, risks, decisions, accomplishments, and resource needs to senior leadership.
Drives participation, reinforcement, and adoption of technical training programs throughout the business.
Establishes and monitors measures of program participation, completion, certification, facilitator readiness, instructional quality, participant feedback, application, and business impact.
Provides dashboards and executive-ready updates that clearly communicate progress, barriers, outcomes, and recommendations.
Uses data, stakeholder feedback, and field observations to improve programs and address barriers to participation or application.
Ensures training records and program documentation are accurately maintained in Cornerstone or other designated systems.
Performs other duties as assigned.
