About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated Manager, Technical Accounting & External Reporting to lead our company's external financial reporting, technical accounting, and audit functions. This is a hands-on role ideal for a CPA with a strong public accounting foundation who enjoys solving complex accounting issues, owning financial reporting processes, and partnering across the business to drive excellence. This person will prepare financial statements, resolve and document GAAP questions, manage the external audit, and maintain the purchase-accounting and earnout fair-value models.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; active CPA required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, beginning in the audit / assurance practice of a Big 4 or large regional public accounting firm.
  • Strong, hands-on command of US GAAP, including ASC 606 (revenue recognition), ASC 340-40 (contract costs), ASC 842 (lease accounting), ASC 805 (business combinations), and fair-value measurement and contingent consideration accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing GAAP financial statements and footnote disclosures.
  • Experience managing or supporting external financial statement audits.
  • Excellent technical accounting research, analytical, and written communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel and comfort building and maintaining financial models (e.g., fair-value / earnout models).
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, as permitted by law.

Nice To Haves

  • Insurance brokerage or agency accounting experience.
  • Experience in a private-equity-backed, acquisition-focused organization.
  • Familiarity with agency bill vs. direct bill, commission revenue, and fiduciary / trust accounting.
  • Credit facility and lender covenant reporting experience.
  • Experience with an agency management system (e.g., Applied Epic).
  • Exposure to ERP and financial consolidation platforms.
  • M&A integration and post-close accounting experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare consolidated GAAP financial statements and related footnote disclosures.
  • Manage annual audited financial statements and interim reporting requirements.
  • Own reporting deliverables required by lenders, including covenant calculations, quarterly compliance certificates, and other credit facility reporting.
  • Maintain reporting close calendars and ensure accurate, timely submissions to external stakeholders.
  • Lead accounting for revenue recognition (ASC 606) and deferred contract acquisition costs (ASC 340-40) across the company’s commission-based revenue streams (agency bill, direct bill, and producer commissions), including related journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Manage lease accounting under ASC 842, including new lease evaluations, modifications, right-of-use assets, and lease liabilities.
  • Research complex accounting matters and prepare technical accounting memoranda supporting GAAP conclusions.
  • Provide accounting guidance to business partners and finance teams across the organization.
  • Perform purchase accounting for acquisitions under ASC 805, including purchase price allocations and opening balance sheet assessments.
  • Oversee GAAP accounting for earnouts and contingent consideration arrangements, including periodic fair-value remeasurements.
  • Develop and maintain financial models supporting valuation and contingent consideration accounting.
  • Partner with valuation specialists, M&A teams, and finance leadership on acquisition-related accounting matters.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the company's Big 4 external auditor.
  • Coordinate audit timelines, PBC requests, and audit deliverables across the accounting organization.
  • Resolve audit inquiries and support a smooth, efficient audit process.
  • Coordinate audit deliverables across the Central Accounting functions (GL & Close, Revenue Accounting & Billing, AP) and hold owners accountable to audit deadlines.
  • Work closely with General Ledger, Close, Revenue Accounting, Billing, Treasury, and Finance leadership teams.
  • Support accurate implementation of technical accounting conclusions during close processes.
  • Help improve accounting policies, controls, documentation, and reporting processes.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and scalability of the Finance organization.
