About The Position

The Manager, Talent Recruitment – Brooklyn Selection plays a critical role in ensuring our Brooklyn schools are staffed with the exceptional educators and staff members who make that impact possible. This role leads recruitment efforts across the Brooklyn region, partnering with school and regional leaders to attract, assess, and hire high-quality talent while developing a team of Talent Recruiters. The ideal candidate is energized by building strong partnerships, improving hiring systems, and helping schools meet their staffing goals in service of Uncommon's mission of preparing every student for college and beyond.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least 5-6 years of relevant experience in talent acquisition, recruitment, human resources, people operations, school leadership, operations leadership, or a related field.
  • Experience managing hiring processes and partnering with multiple stakeholders to achieve hiring goals.
  • Experience coaching, developing, or leading others through direct management, project leadership, or informal leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience using data to monitor progress, identify trends, and inform decisions.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes, solve problems, and drive results.

  • Experience supporting instructional, operations, or school-based hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Lead selection strategy and hiring execution across Brooklyn, ensuring schools are staffed effectively across instructional, operations, and specialized support roles.
  • Partner with school and regional leaders to understand hiring needs, staffing risks, and recruitment priorities.
  • Develop and adjust recruitment strategies based on hiring progress, candidate pipelines, and regional staffing goals.
  • Support complex and high-priority searches as needed to ensure strong hiring outcomes.
  • Manage and develop a team of Talent Recruiters through coaching, feedback, performance management, and professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture.
  • Build recruiter effectiveness and accountability through clear expectations, ongoing support, and development opportunities.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to Principals, Directors of Operations, Regional Superintendents, and other regional leaders throughout the hiring process.
  • Advise stakeholders on candidate quality, hiring timelines, staffing risks, and selection decisions.
  • Partner with school leaders to strengthen interview processes and ensure efficient, equitable hiring practices.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex candidate and hiring situations.
  • Collaborate closely with sourcing and outreach partners to align recruitment strategies and execution.
  • Monitor hiring progress and recruitment data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Lead improvements to regional recruitment systems, processes, and workflows to increase efficiency and strengthen hiring outcomes.
  • Facilitate regional recruitment meetings focused on strategy, accountability, and shared learning.
  • Contribute to Recruitment Leadership Team initiatives, cross-functional projects, and organizational priorities.
  • Provide hiring coverage and operational support during vacancies, leaves, or periods of peak hiring demand.
