About The Position

The Manager, Studio Operations oversees all studio operations and the equipment room, ensuring seamless execution across all assigned studios throughout the duration of the photo shoots. This role partners closely with brand clients, photographers, and internal teams to deliver a best-in-class studio experience. The Manager leads equipment operations, oversees inventory systems, and manages and trains studio staff, while consistently upholding the Ann Taylor & LOFT studios brand, culture, and reputation as a leading e-commerce studio in NYC.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years in studio operations, production management, or a similar role, including at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Extensive hands-on knowledge of professional DSLR and mirrorless camera systems; continuous, LED and strobe lighting; grip and electric; and digital equipment.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-volume studio environments
  • Proficient in CaptureOne, Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Drive), Adobe Suite.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, safety regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships
  • Physically able to support studio and grip room operations with wall flat/sets installation, props and G&E installs; Must be able to lift a minimum of 75lbs.
  • Strong customer service orientation, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, manage time effectively, and adapt quickly

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and manage studio and equipment staff, with a primary focus on Equipment Coordinators and freelancers
  • Define team vision and goals, conduct performance reviews, and foster a high-performance, service-driven culture
  • Train team members on equipment, safety protocols, and studio best practices
  • Serve as subject-matter expert in photo equipment, including grip and lighting
  • Plan, estimate, and troubleshoot equipment needs in collaboration with photographers and photo assistants
  • Oversee the equipment room and inventory tracking systems
  • Responsible for equipment-related software, purchases, upgrades, and maintenance
  • Maintain appropriate par levels for equipment, expendables, and studio supplies
  • Partner with internal teams (Accounting, HR, IT, Marketing) on studio administration
  • Support the Director in financial management, including budgeting, P&L oversight, accounts payable, and expense management
  • Interface with Ann Taylor and LOFT brands’ internal stakeholders as needed
  • Manage vendor relationships and external resources, including equipment sub-rentals, expendables, labor & delivery, and special requests
  • Ensure exceptional service delivery for all brand clients
  • Oversee cyc walls, facilities upkeep, and ensure a pristine studio environment at all times
  • Maintain inventory levels for in-house supplies (e.g., paint, hardware, tools, building materials)
  • Drive and reinforce studio safety standards and messaging
  • Communicate regularly with building facilities, IT, and security teams
