About The Position

The Sterile Processing Manager at St. Charles Health System (SCHS) is responsible for managing the daily and long-term operations and activities of the Sterile Processing Departments in Bend and Redmond. Manager oversees Sterile Processing Programs across the system and ensures the facilities are in accordance with established policies, procedures, and is responsible for performance management of Sterile Processing caregivers. This position directly manages caregivers in Sterile Processing in Bend and Redmond.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in related field.
  • Current CST, CRCST, CBSPD or Oregon nursing license
  • 3 years of experience in Sterile Processing or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience in health care institution with 3 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of the industry, proven interpersonal skills, solid communication, high drive and energy, and the ability to build relationships within a facility.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent leadership experience and education
  • Advanced certification in Sterile Processing (CIS, CHL, CER)

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily operations and activities of Sterile Processing, including decontamination, tray assembly, sterile processing, storage, and distribution of instruments, trays, sets, and medical/surgical supplies to the Perioperative areas (operating rooms, Cath Lab, and Medical Diagnostic Unit), Respiratory Therapy, Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Outpatient Clinics, and nursing floors.
  • Develops a comprehensive departmental orientation for new staff.
  • Routinely coordinates training and competency validation.
  • Ensures staff work is performed within prescribed technical and safety standards.
  • Provides or coordinates instructions and in-service on new products, procedures, and equipment to identify and prevent resource loss and maintains patient and staff safety.
  • Ensures staff attend technical and mandatory training/education.
  • Works collaboratively and provides support as a subject matter expert to Infection Prevention and other members of the Quality and Patient Safety team.
  • Assures departmental standards of operation and policies are following regulatory and professional agencies, including but not limited to CMS, TJC, AAMI, AORN, AST.
  • Supervises and mentors the team that monitors and supervises the day-to-day operations.
  • Maintains, prioritizes, and expedites workflow.
  • Works with Educator/QA Specialist to conduct orientation, training programs, and staff development.
  • Works effectively with OR leadership and staff to ensure quality of surgical instrument trays, and makes recommendation for surgical tray contents, care and handling by the clinical staff.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates daily activities of the departments, applying continuous process improvement methodologies.
  • Assesses and manages quality of service to assure optimum patient safety and stakeholder and end-user satisfaction, to include completeness and accuracy of instrument trays and sets, proper decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization processes.
  • Responsible for budget development, regular monitoring, accountability and meeting all operational targets for all areas within span of control.
  • Hires, directs, coaches and monitors the performance of all direct reports, to develop and maintain a high performance team that meets organizational and department goals.
  • Monitors and ensures all direct reports are current with compliance and safety requirements.
  • Implements and manages all organizational safety directives and goals.
  • Provides and oversees team’s delivery of customer service in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate.
  • Collaborates with teams to review processes and identify/implement opportunities for improvements, applying Lean principles, concepts and tools.
  • Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects.
  • Supports the Lean principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
