About The Position

Primary Purpose: Responsible for the oversight of corporate governmental affairs and public outreach efforts in coordination with company leaders where appropriate and in adherence with executive policy guidance. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Administer and maintain policies and objectives involving local, state, and federal government affairs. Legislatively represent and protect company interests by working with government, associated authorities, and all committees. Manage staff who liaise between legislative entities and the company, including leading the communications and interactions. Monitor legislative and regulatory activities. Oversee the implementation of policies that support company goals. Analyze proposed legislative actions and determine the potential impact on the company. Proactively research policies to see what changes could be advantageous, and which trends could negatively impact the company in the future. Comply with all regulatory requirements. Analyze data to assess challenges and develop effective controls. Identify and communicate best practices within and across all business lines. Improve methods for risk identification and assessment and provide recommendations for risk mitigation and acceptance. Develop and maintain reports to communicate to management compliance issues found or non-compliance issues with state and/or federal regulatory agencies. Develop and implement corporate governmental affairs strategy and outreach plan to include tracking and reporting metrics for evaluation of effectiveness. Maximize efficient and effective use of internal and external resources in the execution of the governmental affairs outreach efforts. Draft position papers, briefing materials, technical documents, white papers, and presentation materials on relevant legislative and policy issues. Oversee and direct corporate physical security policy and initiatives tied specifically to the safe and secure field operations. Ensure all employees and third-party contractors that are operating on Tallgrass assets are adhering to all regulatory standards. Develop and enhance tools to assist business units in complying with all regulatory standards. Report to Executive Management current performance and realistic future projections with regard to issues impacting performance; provide analysis, alternatives and recommendations to address problems. Keep abreast of industry activities, technologies and trends ensuring that members of Executive Management are informed of developments having an impact on the business in a timely manner. Maintain a strong collaborative relationship with key internal and external stakeholders at all levels including the Executive team, Federal and State regulators, industry partners, owner representatives and public officials. Demonstrate and enforce the highest professional integrity, ethics, and safety discipline. Demonstrate and reinforce a culture of regulatory compliance. Foster a positive open work environment, systems approaches and disciplined execution of all assigned tasks. Manage personnel-related matters, including providing performance-based feedback, providing support and completing administrative paperwork as needed. Participate in annual budget process. Develop responses for and respond to media inquiries. Collaborate with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism. Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully. Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance. Will work non-traditional hours as needed. Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public. Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business Management, Communications, Public Relations, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of ten (10) or more years of progressively responsible experience with a proven record of accomplishment in the oil & gas industry.
  • A minimum of ten (10) or more years of experience in government affairs, lobbying or public affairs activities.
  • Previous experience managing cross-functional teams and operating at a senior level.
  • Demonstrated superior leadership outcomes in the areas of leading self, leading others, and leading an organization.
  • Proven ability to drive positive change with continuous improvement.
  • Proven track record of successful, innovative leadership and delivery of performance results.
  • Demonstrated success in managing large departmental budgets.
  • Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Strong analysis, decision making and logic skills.
  • Self-motivated, display a high level of initiative.
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
