About The Position

Reporting to the Director, Sport and Recreation, the Manager, Sport Performance will provide expertise in Long-Term Athlete Development (L.T.A.D), and the design and delivery of integrated sport performance systems, including athlete monitoring and performance optimization. This role will be responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of sports specific programs across the Abilities Centre. Working collaboratively with Program Leads, the Manager, Sport Performance will lead the creation and execution of sports performance strategies for both individual athletes and teams across Able-Bodied, Para, and Special Olympic sports streams supporting inclusive, high quality, and progressive performance environments.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Kinesiology, Sport, Physical Education, Physiology, Biomechanics, or related field.
  • Experience in program administration, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Experience working with high performance and/or student athletes.
  • Experience working with provincial or national sport organizations in athlete and/or high-performance system development.
  • Experience working with Able-Bodied, Para, and Special Olympic athletes.
  • Experience implementing athlete monitoring systems and can interpret and communicate performance data.
  • Strong knowledge of the Long-Term Athlete Development (L.T.A.D) and its application to student athletes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 and have knowledge of ACTIVENet or similar recreation management software.
  • Required to have a current and relevant professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency.
  • Required to have a current, clear vulnerable sector check (V.S.C).
  • Required to have a current, valid First Aid and C.P.R C / A.E.D.
  • Access to reliable transportation for travel, possess a valid driver’s license, and are flexible regarding work schedule.

  • Personal experience as a high-performance athlete is an asset.
  • Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S) is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all Technical Sport Streams, including supervision of coaches and trainers, development and alignment of sport specific program plans, as well as athlete performance tracking, reporting, and testing for both A.S.A.D locations in Whitby and London, Ontario.
  • Oversee Strength and Conditioning for both A.S.A.D locations, including but not limited to: Designing and overseeing periodized strength and conditioning programs aligned with L.T.A.D stage and competition calendar, Developing and implementing athlete monitoring systems, including performance KPIs and long-term athlete development tracking, Supervising and supporting Strength and Conditioning staff.
  • Standardize student athlete data collection and testing protocols and manage the reporting and communication with families at both A.S.A.D locations.
  • Manage relationships with local sports clubs, and provincial and national sport organizations for both A.S.A.D locations.
  • Create and manage the Integrated Support Team (I.S.T) curriculum and delivery, which includes but is not limited to nutrition, mental performance, recovery and injury management for both A.S.A.D locations.
  • Work with the Senior Coordinators for each A.S.A.D location on the scheduling and delivery of day-to-day Strength and Conditioning, Technical Sport Streams, and I.S.T sessions.
  • Act as an additional supervisor within the school day to assist with ratio for A.S.A.D Durham.
  • Support program and revenue growth in collaboration with the rest of the A.S.A.D department.
  • Lead the development and support the implementation of Sports Team Training as a core Abilities Centre service, establishing scalable, high-quality performance offerings for external teams and organizations, including but not limited to: Designing sport specific performance programs and frameworks, including facility-based training packages, strength and conditioning programs, and I.S.T service options.
  • Create strength and conditioning programs in alignment with L.T.A.D, ensuring consistency and quality across age groups, sports, and performance levels.
  • Build internal capacity by creating and delivering education training and mentorship programs for Personal Training staff to effectively implement Sports Team Training sessions, in collaboration with the Senior Coordinator, Fitness and Wellness.
  • Establish performance monitoring and testing protocols, including using the Helinski University Research (H.U.R) system, in collaboration with the Senior Manager, Member Experience.
  • Create a marketing strategy in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications department and Senior Manager, Member Experience.
  • Support the development and implementation of a Parasport Strategy in collaboration with the Senior Coordinator, Sport and Recreation.
  • Create relationships with national, provincial, and local Parasport groups, and support the Senior Coordinator, Sport and Recreation in stewarding those relationships to grow the Parasport strategy and programming.
  • Support high performance pathways for Para-athletes aligned with provincial and national standard, and design and implement I.S.T packages to enhance Parasport offerings.
  • Work with the Program Leads in implementing trainer evaluations to determine areas of improvement and to ensure programs are meeting objectives.
  • Support the Program Leads and the Research Department in implementing program evaluations to gather participant, parent, and coach feedback, to determine areas of improvement and to ensure programs are meeting program objectives.
