Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/medtech The Manager, Software Simulation will work with other members of the Robotics and Digital Solutions team to define and drive the technical strategy for a software "digital twin" simulator supporting our robotic surgery system. The simulator is a critical platform used program-wide to accelerate development cycles, enable hardware-agnostic testing, and facilitate rapid prototyping of next generation robotic concepts. In this role, you will lead the end-to-end design and delivery of future simulation features! Key partnerships include the software, robotics, systems engineering, verification, and manufacturing teams. You will contribute to the development of a complex robotic medical platform. Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, robotics, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of proven experience developing simulation software.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a technical contributor while leading a simulation team.
  • Expertise in developing modern C++ software on complex, distributed systems.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Consistent track record working well in a collaborative environment, communicating effectively across teams, learning from others, as well as mentoring and coaching more junior team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of robot kinematics, control, and 3D representations of spatial orientation.
  • Knowledge of Docker, CMake, Git, Linux, Qt, and networking.
  • Experience developing real-time simulation or robotics software in a medical or highly regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally to identify, scope, and prioritize high-impact opportunities for simulation across the organization.
  • Own a simulation feature roadmap that balances short-term needs and meets long-term strategic objectives.
  • Lead a team of software engineers in building simulation features to meet organizational objectives and business goals.
  • Shape the technical direction and architecture of simulation software implementation to develop a robust, scalable, and extensible simulation framework.
  • Provide hands-on engineering assistance and complex technical problem solving as needed.
  • Partner with the software, robotics, and testing teams to verify that the simulator accurately represents real-world robot system behavior and performance.
  • Serve as the simulation technical lead and expert within the surgical robot project - championing simulation adoption, identifying untapped simulation opportunities, and mentoring engineers at all skill levels on good simulation practice.
