About The Position

We are seeking a hard-working, innovative, detail-oriented and creative team player to join our Aptive team! This is a full-time Manager, Software Quality Assurance position located in Provo, Utah. The individual we are looking for is someone who enjoys working in a team environment and excels working at an individual level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience
  • 6+ years in software quality assurance, including 2+ years leading or managing a QA team or function
  • Demonstrated experience standing up or maturing QA practices and test automation in a modern software environment
  • Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, including manual, automated, functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing
  • Experience with test automation frameworks, CI/CD integration, and modern web/mobile application testing
  • Strong understanding of the SDLC, Agile delivery practices, quality gates, acceptance criteria, and release readiness
  • Ability to develop risk-based testing strategies, identify root causes, and prioritize quality issues based on business and technical impact
  • Experience defining and using quality metrics, defect-tracking tools, and test-management systems
  • Strong leadership and team-development skills, including the ability to establish QA standards and mature testing practices
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate with and influence Engineering, Product, and other cross-functional stakeholders
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively in a changing software-development environment

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve quality assurance strategies, standards, processes, and procedures across the software development lifecycle
  • Establish appropriate quality gates and release entry and exit criteria based on organizational, technical, and business requirements
  • Define and implement risk-based testing approaches considering factors such as system complexity, customer impact, release scope, business requirements, and technical risk
  • Promote quality throughout the software development lifecycle through practices including shift-left testing, defect prevention, early validation, and continuous improvement
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve the effectiveness, reliability, scalability, and efficiency of software testing and quality assurance practices
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve automated testing capabilities, including unit, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing, and integrate appropriate automated testing into CI/CD processes
  • Partner with Engineering to increase appropriate automated test coverage, improve testing feedback cycles, and monitor the effectiveness and reliability of automated testing
  • Evaluate and recommend QA tools, frameworks, technologies, and testing approaches based on organizational and technical requirements
  • Lead, coach, develop, and manage QA team members, including establishing performance expectations and goals, conducting regular performance discussions, participating in formal performance-management processes, and identifying opportunities for employee development
  • Identify team skill and capability needs and provide appropriate coaching, training, development, and other support consistent with organizational priorities
  • Participate in workforce planning, interviewing, candidate selection, and hiring activities in accordance with company policies and applicable law, and foster a collaborative, accountable, and continuous-improvement-oriented team environment
  • Plan and coordinate testing activities associated with software releases and evaluate test results, unresolved defects, system risks, and other relevant factors to provide release-readiness recommendations
  • Coordinate QA activities during post-deployment and hypercare periods, including validation of defect fixes and appropriate regression testing following production issues
  • Identify and escalate material software quality, release, or stability risks to appropriate Engineering leadership and stakeholders
  • Partner with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, Software Engineers, and other stakeholders to establish acceptance criteria, quality expectations, and appropriate testing approaches based on business and technical risk
  • Identify and communicate ambiguities, gaps, risks, and testability concerns within product, business, and technical requirements
  • Support effective defect identification, triage, prioritization, resolution, validation, and communication in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders
  • Influence and improve quality practices across teams through collaboration, technical expertise, coaching, and data-driven recommendations
  • Establish, monitor, analyze, and report meaningful software-quality measures, which may include defect escape rate, automated and overall test coverage, testing cycle time, defect trends, and mean time to detect
  • Analyze quality data and trends to identify areas of quality or operational risk, inform testing priorities, and support continuous-improvement initiatives
  • Communicate software-quality performance, significant risks, release readiness, and improvement opportunities to Engineering leadership and other appropriate stakeholders
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
