About The Position

Bill Me Later, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of PayPal, Inc., seeks Manager, Software Engineering in Austin, TX. This role involves directly managing software development projects, including program management and execution through individual contributors. The manager will lead project teams across platforms or groups, implement processes for strong operational hygiene, and deliver projects impacting the domain with quality and timeliness. The position requires demonstrating strong tactical ability by managing the roadmap for a scrum team responsible for technical issues of diverse scope, where analysis requires an understanding of current business or trends. The role also involves communicating technical issues competently to non-technical audiences, analyzing multiple sources of information, and resolving complex technical, operational, and organizational problems relating to software development. Collaboration with the direct team, managers in the organization, and stakeholders such as Product Owners & PMO is essential. Partial telecommuting is permitted from within a commutable distance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field plus 8 years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Professional software engineering experience with large-scale applications (3 years)
  • Technical leadership or team management experience (1 year)
  • Experience with Object-Oriented Design
  • Experience with at least one major programming language, such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, Kotlin, or Swift
  • Experience with software development best practices including version control (Git), code review, testing, and Agile methodologies
  • Experience with either mobile application development (iOS or Android) or backend service development and system architecture
  • Experience designing software systems, evaluating technical tradeoffs, and making architectural decisions
  • Experience communicating technical information to non-technical stakeholders and leading cross-functional teams
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • Database design (SQL)
  • Fintech, payments, or financial services technology and security/compliance concepts
