About The Position

AI2IO is seeking a Manager, Software Engineering to lead the people, capability, and operating environment behind software that extends Autodesk Revit and supports architecture, engineering, construction, commissioning, and design workflows. The Engineering Tools team builds and supports Revit add-ins, Blazor applications, integrations, installers, deployment services, licensing components, and related tools. This is a formal people-management role for all engineers and Software Engineer Technical Leads on the team. Candidates need a strong software-engineering management foundation and meaningful AEC and Revit domain experience; hands-on Revit use in mechanical, electrical, BIM, design technology, commissioning, or comparable workflows is particularly relevant. The manager leads and develops engineers through regular one-on-ones, clear expectations, timely feedback, performance reviews, development planning, recognition, and appropriate handling of sustained performance or employee-relations concerns. They partner with Technical Leads on technical contributions and development needs while retaining accountability for career evaluation, formal performance decisions, and team health. They also assess team capacity, skills, dependencies, succession risks, and staffing needs; coordinate learning, hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and assignments; and develop future technical and management leaders. The role owns a sustainable delivery environment by ensuring adequate staffing, capability, role clarity, decision pathways, tools, and organizational support. In partnership with Technical Leads and Project Managers, the manager monitors delivery health, risks, dependencies, capacity, and recovery without taking over their respective ownership. They identify recurring delays, incidents, rework, quality concerns, support burdens, and workload imbalances, and intervene when needed to address delivery problems and prevent sustained overload. The manager uses practical Revit and AEC fluency to help software engineers understand design, BIM, commissioning, and project-delivery contexts. They facilitate communication among software teams and mechanical, electrical, commissioning, BIM, design-technology, and field stakeholders, and help teams account for organization-specific Revit content, standards, parameters, families, model structures, workflows, supported versions, model integrity, and downstream constraints. They build team capability across C#/.NET, Revit add-ins and APIs, Blazor, data and integrations, installers, deployment, licensing, diagnostics, quality, support, and commercialization readiness, while reducing single-person dependencies. Working with Technical Leads, Architects, Product Owners, Project Managers, Software Quality, Product Adoption, and support partners, the manager supports releases, deployment, licensing, installation, compatibility, documentation, training, and support. They plan the people, process, and capability changes needed when selected internal tools are prepared for affiliate, contractor, client, or public use, and ensure credible support and escalation coverage. They also foster candid, healthy team practices; lead structured hiring and consistent onboarding; identify retention risks; and improve management systems, workforce planning, career development, leadership continuity, and organizational effectiveness. The role maintains clear boundaries with Technical Leads, Architects, Project Managers, Product Owners, and Business Analysts, using technical and domain knowledge to improve the environment without assuming those roles' authority. The position is remote and may require up to 5% travel, including travel to any or all 50 U.S. states. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience is preferred. AI2IO describes its benefits package as very competitive. The listed compensation-range notice applies only to residents of Colorado, California, Illinois, New York, Washington, and Washington, D.C.; no compensation amount is provided in the posting.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering or closely related technical-delivery experience.
  • At least 2 years of formal people management within a software organization.
  • Meaningful professional experience with Autodesk Revit and AEC, BIM, design technology, engineering design, construction technology, or commissioning workflows, including practical understanding of effects on real project work.
  • Demonstrated experience managing software engineers and technical leaders while preserving Technical Lead and Architect authority over feasibility, estimates, standards, implementation, and architecture.
  • Experience managing performance, difficult feedback, recognition, development, reviews, promotions, and sustained performance concerns.
  • Experience with workforce planning, hiring, onboarding, skill-gap assessment, retention, succession, and staffing recommendations for specialized teams.
  • Sufficient software-engineering depth to assess C#/.NET and web application architecture, APIs, data, identity, security, testing, CI/CD, observability, dependencies, delivery, and production-support risks without directing implementation.
  • Ability to communicate across software engineering, mechanical and electrical design, BIM, commissioning, product, quality, project delivery, adoption, and leadership audiences.
  • Experience supporting software through deployment, installers, licensing, version compatibility, documentation, training, support, or productization.
  • Experience managing distributed or remote teams and improving operating practices, communication, onboarding, and leadership continuity.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, coaching, facilitation, conflict-resolution, and organizational judgment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Architecture, Construction Management, or a materially related field, or equivalent experience; the degree is described as preferred.

  • Partner with Technical Leads and Project Managers to monitor delivery health, risk, dependencies, capacity, and recovery; intervene in material delivery problems without taking over their ownership.
  • Review recurring delays, incidents, rework, quality concerns, support burdens, and workload imbalances, and identify improvements while protecting teams from sustained overload.
  • Use Revit and AEC fluency to clarify design, BIM, commissioning, and project-delivery context for software teams and facilitate communication with engineering and field stakeholders.
  • Build workforce capability and training plans across C#/.NET, Revit add-ins and API patterns, Blazor, data and integrations, installers, deployment, licensing, diagnostics, quality, support, and commercialization readiness.
  • Reduce single-person dependencies in Revit workflows, organization-specific knowledge, deployment, licensing, testing, and operational support.
  • Partner on product releases and readiness, including deployment, licensing, installation, compatibility, documentation, training, support, and adoption.
  • Plan people, process, and capability changes for selected tools prepared for affiliate, contractor, client, or public use; ensure credible support and escalation coverage.
