Reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering / Data & Platform Engineering, the Engineering Manager, Core Data Infrastructure will provide leadership for the design, development, and operation of Availity’s core data platforms and services. This role is responsible for owning a team focused on foundational data infrastructure that supports reliable, secure, and scalable data ingestion, storage, processing, and access across the organization. The Engineering Manager will lead all aspects of the software development lifecycle for core data infrastructure, including architecture, design, implementation, deployment, and continuous improvement of platform services and tooling. This role partners closely with product, application engineering, information management, and analytics teams to ensure the platform meets current and future business needs. This individual will be responsible for translating business and platform requirements into technical designs, establishing engineering standards, and driving disciplined execution. They will anticipate and evaluate emerging technologies, assess their impact on reliability, scalability, cost, and security, and guide the team’s technical direction accordingly. The manager will be accountable for delivering high-quality, well-operationalized systems while effectively managing team capacity, priorities, and technical risk. The Engineering Manager serves as a primary liaison between the data infrastructure team and cross‑functional stakeholders, including engineering, product management, security, and operations. The role requires operating effectively in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment while balancing strategic platform evolution with day‑to‑day execution. People leadership responsibilities include hiring, goal setting, performance management, career development, and day‑to‑day coaching. The manager is also expected to foster strong engineering practices and a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field of study
  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, including experience building and operating production systems
  • 5+ years of experience managing engineering teams and working effectively across organizational boundaries
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating data infrastructure components such as pipelines, storage systems, APIs, and platform services
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives and make sound architectural tradeoffs
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts and decisions to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders

  • Experience improving engineering productivity through standards, tooling, and automation
  • Background in reliability, performance optimization, or large‑scale distributed systems

Responsibilities

  • Leading a team responsible for Availity’s core data infrastructure and platform capabilities
  • Establishing and enforcing strong engineering practices around design, testing, deployment, observability, and operational excellence
  • Owning the technical roadmap and execution for foundational data systems
  • Partnering with Product, Engineering, Security, and Operations leaders to align platform capabilities with business priorities
  • Managing competing priorities while maintaining system stability, scalability, and data integrity
  • Advocating for sound engineering principles, long‑term maintainability, and clear ownership across teams
