Manager, Software Engineering - Growth Platform

FigmaSan Francisco, CA
$258,000 - $376,000Hybrid

About The Position

Figma is growing its team of passionate creatives and builders on a mission to make design accessible to all. Figma’s platform helps teams bring ideas to life—whether you're brainstorming, creating a prototype, translating designs into code, or iterating with AI. From idea to product, Figma empowers teams to streamline workflows, move faster, and work together in real time from anywhere in the world. This role is for the first engineering manager for the Growth Platform, focusing initially on the Communications capability. The platform will grow as value is proven. The role involves partnering with leadership to define the platform’s direction, assess existing technology, identify future investments, and evolve the vision through learning from shipping, customers, and the ecosystem. While aiming for a long-term vision, the role requires delivering incremental value every sprint. This is a full-time role that can be held from one of Figma's US hubs or remotely in the United States.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in engineering management, with a strong track record of building and shipping application platforms
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience at the application or product tier
  • Experience driving outsized impact from small changes—say, a UI layout change that lifted growth 20%—and energized by enabling such wins at 10x scale
  • Demonstrate strategic insight to optimize impact for both longer and short term.
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments, delivering continuous value while building toward a longer-term platform vision
  • Track record of prioritizing by impact, leveraging existing assets to accelerate, and scaling through platform-level thinking
  • Experience working cross-functionally with marketing, product, design, and data

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at a product-led growth company during a period of multi-product expansion
  • Experience building platforms that enable non-engineering teams (marketing, design, content) to run experiments or publish content independently
  • Background in personalization systems, recommendation engines, or ML-driven content selection
  • Experience integrating with customer data platforms, marketing automation systems, or building user attribute services from product usage data
  • Familiarity with using AI for quality assurance, brand consistency, or content governance at scale
  • Experience with internationalization (i18n) and localization (l10n) infrastructure

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead the team: Hire the initial engineers for the Growth Platform’s first team. Set the team’s culture, operating rhythm, and engineering standards. Mentor engineers, create career growth opportunities, and help scale the organization as scope expands.
  • Build capabilities that unlock new experiments: This involves building product capabilities (personalized messaging, self-service publishing, cross-system integrations) that make it easier for teams across Figma to run growth experiments without engineering bottlenecks.
  • Leverage AI to scale quality and speed: Explore and integrate AI-driven approaches for brand consistency checks, visual quality validation, copy generation, and experiment governance to allow experiment volume to grow without proportional growth in manual review.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership: Guide architecture decisions, review system designs, and make build-vs-integrate choices.
  • Partner across the company: Collaborate with Marketing to align on cross-channel messaging, partner with growth teams to identify platform capability needs, and work with product teams to ensure growth messaging improves rather than detracts from the end-user experience.
  • Shape the platform vision: Define what to build next based on adoption, impact, and learnings from each phase. The roadmap will evolve as we learn, and you’ll be central to how it evolves.
