About The Position

The SAS 9 R&D organization is looking for a Manager, Software Development to lead a team of 8-10 software engineers and testers for the Access team. You will work with other managers and technical leads to manage software development work in a highly collaborative organization. You will ensure individuals for whom you have organizational responsibility are consistently strong contributors within a high-performance team. You will use SAS product knowledge and software construction expertise to ensure project work you oversee is completed to a high standard of quality and with innovative coding solutions. You will be responsible for scoping, scheduling, and overseeing work projects up to medium complexity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative field, preferably Computer Science or related field
  • 8+ years of related programming or testing experience, plus 2 yrs in a leadership, team lead or project lead role
  • Practical experience with more than one programming language (SAS, C/C++, SQL, Java, Go).
  • Experience with big databases (Oracle, MSSQL, DB2, Teradata, etc.) and an understanding of how to write code that interacts with them in a performant manner.
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence
  • A strong understanding of how Agile SDLC practices enable a successful team
  • Experience with Kubernetes and public cloud provider technologies
  • Experience leading development and delivery at the enterprise system level.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using SAS products preferred
  • Proficiency with all aspects of the software development/testing lifecycle.
  • Experience with microservice architectures preferred
  • Familiarity with SQL programming
  • Working knowledge of Continuous Integration

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the team (development, testing, performance, growth).
  • Develop, prioritize, and assign objectives aligned to department/division goals.
  • Communicate and represent departmental interests across levels.
  • Manage and lead project scoping and scheduling; track progress and raise risks.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and follow established procedures.
  • Regularly communicate status, risks, and resource needs to senior management.
  • Be responsible for tactical management of a functional area, feature, product, or solutions involving senior leadership as needed.
