About The Position

As the Senior Energy Storage Engineer, you will develop and manage relationships with BESS engineering consulting firms. You will coordinate support, either in-house or through consulting firms, for various work-streams including technical evaluation of new acquisition opportunities for Due Diligence (DD) teams, and the development and review of design and engineering packages for new build storage projects supporting the Project Execution (PE) team, as well as for Storage systems in the MN8 fleet supporting the Asset Management (AM) team. Additionally, you will develop and manage specific tools to support efficient sizing, pre-construction, and bidding of BESS projects. You will support the DD team by performing or managing consulting firms in the technical evaluation of new acquisition opportunities involving Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This evaluation includes reviewing engineering drawings, technical documentation, critical project documentation, performing engineering calculations, reviewing performance reports and equipment manuals, and preparing value engineering and risk analysis. You will also support the PE team after acquisition by coordinating design and engineering involving BESS, including preparing value engineering and risk analysis, supervising third-party engineering providers, supporting technical RFI and Change Order requests, coordinating with equipment vendors, and supporting commissioning of new built sites. Furthermore, you will support the AM team during the operations phase by coordinating design and engineering involving BESS, including reviewing repair requests and incident events, evaluating equipment replacement options, supervising third-party engineering providers for repair/repower/replacement drawings, and supporting technical troubleshooting. You will gather technical lessons learned to update and improve MN8 Design Standards for Solar and BESS systems. You will travel to sites for review and work with onsite field engineers, providing engineering evaluations and electrical systems audits. You will also develop and maintain relationships with key BESS equipment suppliers and evaluate their product pipeline. Identifying and evaluating technical enhancement opportunities in conjunction with DD, PE, and AM teams, and supporting the Project Management Office (PMO) team in the development and improvement of technical related processes are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in BESS Engineering with excellent understanding of storage project technical characteristics.
  • Engineering/ BSc Degree required; Masters preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of renewable energy engineering documents.
  • Working knowledge of key renewable energy document types: project agreements and permits.
  • Proficient in: HomerPro, AutoCAD , Excel, Word, Smartsheet.
  • Very organized and able to multitask effectively.
  • Good communicator both written and verbal skill.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team and 3rd party resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and determination to complete difficult projects.
