About The Position

Convergent Energy and Power is seeking a Manager, Risk and Insurance to oversee all aspects of the company’s insurance and enterprise risk management programs. This role spans project development, construction, and operational phases, managing property, casualty, and liability insurance. The position requires close coordination with insurance brokers and advisors, and collaboration with internal teams to ensure compliance with project financing, tax equity, and contractual requirements. The Manager will also work with Capital Markets on tax credit and specialty insurance policies, manage the company’s letter of credit portfolio, and assess counterparty credit risk. As a core member of the Risk Committee, this role involves proactively identifying, monitoring, and managing enterprise-level risks, including financial, operational, regulatory, tax, and health & safety. This is an individual contributor role that will provide mentorship and guidance to the Associate, Financial Planning and Analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, Engineering, or related field).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to establish credibility with investors, lenders, insurers, brokers, and underwriters.
  • Demonstrated experience providing mentorship or professional guidance.
  • English language proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • 5–10 years of experience in insurance and/or risk management.
  • Professional certifications such as ARM, CPCU, CRM, or RIMS-CRMP.
  • Experience with insurance tracking, risk management, or financial platforms.
  • Familiarity with distributed energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of battery storage technologies and associated risks, including fire risk, safety standards, and best operational practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manage insurance programs for projects across development, construction, and operations.
  • Ensure alignment of insurance coverage with project-level contracts, financing documents, debt agreements, and tax equity requirements.
  • Coordinate placement, renewal, and endorsement of construction and operational insurance policies.
  • Manage incidents and claims.
  • Oversee all corporate-level insurance programs.
  • Lead annual insurance renewals in coordination with brokers and advisors.
  • Ensure policies remain cost-effective, comprehensive, and aligned with enterprise risk profile.
  • Oversee the company’s letter of credit portfolio.
  • Coordinate issuance, renewals, draws, and releases with banks and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor exposure, utilization, and compliance with financial agreements.
  • Review, assess, and maintain a database of off taker and counterparty credit risks.
  • Support internal decision-making related to contract counterparties and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Serve as a key member of the Risk Committee.
  • Identify, monitor, and manage key risks including financial, operational, regulatory, tax, and health & safety.
  • Support development and enhancement of risk governance practices.
  • Hold check-ins with the Associate, Financial Planning and Analysis, providing guidance, maintaining alignment on priorities and objectives, identifying knowledge gaps to suggest training opportunities to their direct manager, and providing general support to help them succeed in their role.
  • Assist the Associate, Financial Planning and Analysis direct manager in performance management activities by providing feedback and input on individual team member performance, strengths and weaknesses.
  • Assist in skill development and knowledge sharing, offering mentorship and coaching to help the Associate, Financial Planning and Analysis enhance their capabilities and contribute effectively.
  • Foster a positive team culture that embodies Convergent’s values.
  • Act as a trusted resource and advocate for the Associate, Financial Planning and Analysis, ensuring that concerns, challenges, and process improvements are communicated and/or approved by their direct manager.
  • Assist the CFO with hiring and onboarding efforts by providing input on team needs, participating in interviews when appropriate, and helping integrate new hires into team processes.
