About The Position

The Research Manager coordinates and supervises the research employees in collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI) and is responsible for carrying out research projects conducted within Nova Scotia Health within their portfolio. The position requires a combination of an understanding of research opportunities and business acumen. The manager must be able to build external relationships with industry sponsors. It also requires the ability to build partnerships between research groups and clinical service units, and between Nova Scotia Health and its other academic partners. The Research Manager provides leadership and supports strategies and operational plans consistent with legislation, accountability frameworks and the mission, vision and values of the organization. This position contributes to the design and development of comprehensive human resource and organizational performance strategies and business practices. The Research Manager ensures continuous improvement to advance a vision of excellence within their area of responsibility. They are accountable for the development, maintenance and monitoring of quality operations, and compliance with relevant legislation, standards and accreditation requirements. The Research Manager facilitates and champions a learning and research environment that aligns with Nova Scotia Health. The Research Manager is motivated to engage in the process of becoming culturally competent, and seeks and obtains a sound educational base about culturally and ethnically diverse groups. They respect different cultural perspectives, are able to build understanding with others, and create equal opportunities. Requirements

  • Business degree, business diploma, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education, training and/or degree in a related health profession (e.g. Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, Dietician, Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, etc);
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a relevant health profession and/or research an asset;
  • Formal management training/courses;
  • Management/leadership experience; ability to lead a team in a dynamic, fast paced work environment.
  • Financial background an asset;
  • CCRP (Certified Clinical Research Professional) or equivalent an asset.
  • Clinical experience in the relevant division preferred;
  • Proficiency in specialized technology programs related to the study;
  • Knowledge of basic accounting concepts;
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, coaching and teaching skills;
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills;
  • Effective research and analytical thinking skills;
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution and rapport-building skills;
  • Ability to work well independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team environment;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint), email and internet.
