About The Position

The primary function is to develop, implement, and manage Canal Barge Company’s compliance programs. This role involves ensuring that the company adheres to all relevant laws, regulations, and standards. The Manager will function as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies and will act as an advisor to business unit leaders on compliance matters. The position requires in-depth knowledge of industry regulations and effective communication skills to guide and inform various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or another related field.
  • 7+ years of compliance, regulatory affairs, or risk management experience within maritime, shipyard, or terminal operations.
  • Proven track record of managing audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting.
  • Background in environmental compliance is required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of maritime laws and regulations preferred.
  • Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Coast Guard, Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Maritime Administration, and Federal Maritime Organization requirements.
  • Monitor changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards and communicate updates to leadership team and staff.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain practices and processes to ensure compliance with all maritime, shipyard, and terminal regulations.
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external compliance audits, inspections, and reviews.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records to demonstrate compliance.
  • Liaise with regulators, classification societies, and third-party auditors.
  • Support environmental stewardship by ensuring adherence to pollution prevention, waste management, and sustainability practices.
  • Partner with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team to ensure alignment with safety standards in shipyard and terminal operations.
  • Develop and deliver compliance training programs for vessel crews, shipyard workers, and terminal staff.
  • Promote a strong compliance culture by raising awareness of company policies, ethical conduct, and industry requirements.
  • Identify compliance risks and implement proactive strategies to mitigate them.
  • Investigate incidents of non-compliance, recommend corrective actions, and ensure follow-through.
  • Work closely with operations, legal, and executive teams to support business goals while maintaining compliance.
  • Provide guidance during project planning and execution to ensure compliance requirements are integrated.
  • Perform other duties as required and directed by the Vice President of Risk Management.
  • Carry out the Business Philosophy, Code of Conduct, and Mission of Canal Barge Company.
