About The Position

The QE Manager leads a team of Quality Engineers (QEs) and Software Development Engineers in Test (SDETs) to drive quality practices across the engineering organization. This role owns the execution and consistency of the quality engineering strategy—centered on the two pillars of risk-based exploratory testing and automation as confirmation—by guiding teams in adopting effective practices, maturing their quality mindset, and delivering actionable insights that influence product decisions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in software quality.
  • Strong understanding of modern quality engineering practices, including exploratory testing, test automation, observability, and continuous delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor engineers on both mindset and technical skills.
  • Proven success in driving cross-team alignment on quality strategy and practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey risk and quality insights to executive, product, and technical audiences.
  • Experience with agile workflows, DevOps practices, and working across distributed teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience scaling quality practices across large enterprise or multi-team organizations.
  • Familiarity with quality heuristics, test strategy models, and risk-based approaches (e.g., HTSM, CAS framework).
  • Hands-on experience with automation frameworks, continuous checking pipelines, and observability tooling.
  • Track record of fostering innovation in quality engineering through tools, techniques, or process improvements.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience in financial, CPM, or enterprise SaaS environments.
  • Coaching or mentoring in quality methods or modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach QEs and SDETs across multiple product teams to ensure alignment with the quality engineering strategy.
  • Enable consistent application of risk-based exploratory testing by supporting charter creation, context gathering, and story-driven test design.
  • Drive automation maturity by guiding SDETs in the lifecycle of checks, curation of suites, and ownership responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering leaders to align quality activities with delivery goals and risk tolerance.
  • Partner with automation architects, framework teams, and contract regression staff to ensure layered and sustainable automation coverage.
  • Establish practices for effective workflow management, including environment lifecycle support, governance, compliance, and incident response.
  • Tell the quality story through metrics, coverage mapping, and outcome-driven reporting that highlights risk, confidence, and delivery impact.
  • Mentor team members to develop both technical skills (automation, test design, observability) and strategic skills (risk framing, CAS, quality storytelling).
  • Foster a culture of responsible testing, innovation, and collaboration across engineering.
  • Champion responsible AI-assisted quality practices across the SDLC to improve test design, automation opportunities, coverage analysis, and quality artifact generation.
