About The Position

The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is seeking a Manager, Pre-Award to join the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP). This role is responsible for managing the grant proposal process from concept development to submission. The Manager will research funding opportunities and provide comprehensive pre-award support to institutional programs, departments, and schools to align with CSN's strategic priorities and mission. This involves collaborating with faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners to identify funding, coordinate proposal development, and ensure timely and accurate submissions to federal, state, local, and private sponsors. Key duties include drafting concept papers, assisting with narrative development, organizing proposal timelines, interpreting sponsor guidelines, advising on institutional policies and federal cost principles, assisting with budget development, and reviewing proposals for compliance. The position also involves preparing and submitting proposals through electronic systems, maintaining a database of grant opportunities and deadlines, and providing technical assistance to faculty and staff throughout the grant development process. This role is crucial for strengthening CSN's capacity to secure external funding and implement initiatives that support student success, workforce development, and institutional advancement. Additional duties may be assigned by the Director of Sponsored Projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from a regionally accredited college or university: OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4 years of related experience.
  • 3 years’ experience in management, fundraising and grant writing.
  • Experience interacting with diverse teams and community partners.
  • Experience working with principal investigators in a higher education setting.
  • Experience in grant research, grant writing, grant budget, and development.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven record of submitted and awarded grants at the local, state, and federal level.
  • Knowledge of best practices, philosophies and processes in fundraising and grant writing profession.
  • Demonstrated ability and success in fundraising and securing grants for multiple issues and different types of organizational types and needs in the community.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, specific agency grants processes, regulations, and programmatic requirements and ability to research and interpret.
  • Oral and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and database management.
  • Knowledge of reporting protocols and processes.
  • Knowledge of Board of Regents policy, procedures, applicable State and Federal statutes/regulations.

  • Time management skills and the ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Organizational and planning skills with demonstrated experience in project with time sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously.
  • Strategic thinker and ability to problem solve.

Responsibilities

  • Shepherd grant proposals from concept development through submission.
  • Research grant and resource opportunities.
  • Provide comprehensive pre-award support to institutional programs, departments, and schools.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners to identify funding opportunities.
  • Coordinate the development of competitive grant proposals for submission to federal, state, local, and private sponsors.
  • Organize and draft preliminary concept papers and white papers.
  • Assist with narrative development.
  • Ensure all required proposal components are complete, accurate, and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Develop proposal timelines and manage milestones to ensure all stakeholders understand deliverables and deadlines.
  • Interpret complex sponsor guidelines.
  • Monitor updates and changes from funding agencies.
  • Advise project teams on proposal requirements, institutional policies, and federal cost principles.
  • Assist with budget development.
  • Review proposals for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with campus policies and external regulations.
  • Prepare and submit required forms and proposal packages through sponsor and institutional electronic systems.
  • Create, research, and maintain a comprehensive database of grant opportunities and funders.
  • Maintain a calendar of grant deadlines and submission activities.
  • Support faculty and staff throughout the grant development process by providing technical assistance, coordinating communications, and helping teams navigate complex funding requirements.
  • Strengthen CSN’s capacity to secure external funding and implement high-impact initiatives that support student success, workforce development, and institutional advancement.
