About The Position

The Plant Human Resources Manager manages the plant human resources function as directed. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work environment, supporting the food safety system, and administering the plant's human resources functions in accordance with company guidelines. The position ensures staffing needs are met through effective recruiting and selection, manages pre-employment requirements, and ensures compliance with employment laws and regulations. It also oversees workers' compensation, coordinates training, maintains personnel records, and develops new employee orientation programs. Additionally, the role focuses on employee relations, safety programs, and identifying/implementing HR processes for operational effectiveness and regulatory compliance. For unionized environments, this role administers the collective bargaining agreement, handles grievance resolution, and participates in collective bargaining. The position requires computer proficiency, adherence to standard operating procedures, and may involve coordinating emergency response measures. The role also involves communication with authorities and advising on environmental management activities, fostering a climate of trust and confidence among employees and management, and establishing effective working relationships across the organization. The regular working cycle is typically 5 days a week (Monday-Friday), but may include working weekends, varied hours, overtime, and on-call duties. The role also encompasses administrative activities for effective management, including employee selection and development, salary administration, budget administration, safety, counseling, motivation, and meeting objectives. Compliance with hazardous waste management and other environmental regulations is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Broad training in a related field usually acquired through college or work-related experience
  • Job related experience for 2 year(s) minimum
  • Ability to apply intensive and diversified evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard plant human resources techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Must be able to handle sensitive related and proprietary information in a confidential manner.
  • Performs such individual assignments as management may direct.
  • Ability to negotiate with contractors for facilities services.
  • Must maintain professional competence, ethical integrity, knowledge, and skills.
  • Working knowledge of the following areas: employee relations, H.R. management, industrial relations, business practices, H.R. legal practices, Labor Relations and generally accepted managerial practices and procedures.
  • Must follow company policies, procedures, practices, and standards of conduct as outlined in the Ball Corporation manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a safe and secure work environment, including correcting unsafe acts/conditions, facilitating safety meetings, performing safety inspections, and investigating accidents.
  • Supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of the food safety system.
  • Administering and supervising the plant human resources function.
  • Providing and maintaining plant personnel policies and procedures in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Administering wage, salary, and benefit programs.
  • Managing plant staffing needs through succession planning, recruiting, selection, and placement.
  • Ensuring all pre-employment requirements are completed in a timely manner.
  • Providing and maintaining employment practices and procedures in compliance with governmental regulations and laws.

  • Coordinating training programs and tracking results.
  • Maintaining plant personnel functions and records, including promotions, merit reviews, and disciplinary actions.
  • Providing and maintaining effective new employee plant orientation programs.
  • Establishing and developing employee relations programs to maintain a climate of trust and confidence.
  • Developing and monitoring plant safety rules and regulations.
  • Arranging and administering plant safety programs.
  • Identifying, developing, and implementing human resource processes for operational effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
  • Administering the collective bargaining agreement and addressing union-related issues.
  • Preparing for and participating in collective bargaining.
  • Maintaining positive relations with union officials.
  • Accessing, inputting, and retrieving information from the computer.
  • Initiating, reviewing, mastering, and following all standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinating and committing resources for emergency response measures.
  • Maintaining thorough familiarity with the facility’s contingency plan, operations, wastes, records, and layout.
  • Communicating effectively with federal, state, and local authorities.
  • Advising on environmental management activities.
  • Establishing and maintaining an employee relations climate of trust and confidence.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships within the department, division, group, and company.
  • Performing administrative activities necessary for effective management, including selection and development of employees, salary administration, budget administration, employee safety, counseling, motivation, meeting objectives, planning, organizing, integrating, and measuring work.
  • Maintaining awareness of and complying with hazardous waste management and other environmental management requirements.
  • Communicating with the emergency coordinator regarding environmental management activities.
  • Understanding and responding effectively to emergency coordinator directions during emergencies.
  • Implementing contingency plans.
  • Completing and maintaining environmental documentation.
  • Reporting to the emergency coordinator on the status of assigned responsibilities.
  • Complying with established job safety practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Recognizing waste streams and minimizing waste generation.
  • Understanding and practicing proper waste accumulation and storage requirements.
  • Complying with environmental regulations when using, dispensing, or handling hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste.
