About The Position

The Anatomic Pathology Operations Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Anatomic Pathology Department. The AP Operations Manager assures that all services are provided within the department adhere to the mission, scope, and objectives of Jupiter Medical Center. The AP Manager is responsible for staffing, productivity, and inventory. The AP will work closely with pathology team to ensure service quality and efficiency. The position also ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory standards such as the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), the College of American Pathologists (CAP) The Joint Commission (TJC) and the state of Florida Department of Health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in a related science field
  • Completion of a Histology program
  • Minimum five years of experience of anatomical pathology.
  • State of Florida Histology Supervisor License or eligible, must obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists, and AABB accreditation standards.
  • Knowledge of both Federal and State regulations on clinical laboratories.
  • Strong pathology/histology quality and IT knowledge for maintenance and validation of equpment and information systems.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monitoring pathology and histology operations daily to ensure quality performance levels are maintained and compliance with applicable regulations. This role will oversee Pathology and Histology
  • Ensures that qualified and licensed staff are scheduled based on services required.
  • Encourages staff self-development and learning. Practices personnel management according to Human Resource guidelines, policies and procedures including hiring, scheduling staff to meet work demands, and counseling of employees.
  • Assist with planning and developing departmental operational goals. Evaluates current and future technology within the laboratory.
  • Assists with the preparation and evaluation of requests for proposals for the selection of new technology. Prepares justifications for new technology.
  • Operates department within budgetary constraints. Use cost effective utilization of resources to meet financial budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory accreditation, regulatory standards, and information management policies by providing leadership and guidance to staff to ensure that quality policies, processes and procedures are established, current and adhered to by all Pathology staff.
  • Oversee internal audit processes, external assessments, proficiency programs; document control systems; competency assessment; training and other processes.
  • Responsible for the enrollment and participation in appropriate proficiency programs for all services performed.
  • Identify training needs, as well as design and implement training programs specific to pathology and histology.
  • Recommend best practices to maintain and improve project outcomes or pathology functions; participate in laboratory improvement activities.
  • Analyze data, identify trends, monitor prevention and correction of quality deviations, and develop reports for management utilizing technical knowledge and laboratory experience.
  • Identify and report quality issues and problems to management with recommendation for resolution.
  • Establish processes and policies for effective and professional communication between Lab and Pathology staff and other hospital departments.
  • Work with Pathology team to resolve QC non-conformances and other identified issues. Coordinate the sequence of issue resolution across the department to ensure minimal patient impact. Support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop relationships with other hospital department leaders to improve communication and patient care.
  • Provide guidance to resolve problems with instruments, workflows, reagents, and processes.
  • Identify and report non-conformances/deviations/out-of-specification events.
  • Investigate deviations and write exception documents as required, utilizing problem solving tools as needed.
  • Comply with JMC policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Effectively uses and role models current leadership techniques and theories, encouraging the decision-making skills of staff members and providing insight and leadership in complex situations.
  • Understands and enforces hospital and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Serve on hospital and Patient Care Services committees, teams, and work groups as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
