About The Position

Prince William County's Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) is looking for candidates interested in working part-time for the Manager-on-Duty position. Interested individuals would be working part time to support youth and adult indoor recreational games and practices. Activities are scheduled in Prince William County Public Schools (PWCPS). Due to the nature of this position, candidates must be current employees of PWCPS. Applicants will need to gain authorization for keys to access assigned schools from the principal, or their designee. The Manager-on-Duty is responsible for opening and setting up of the facility for league and community use, supervision and security of facility during use, and all cleaning, restoration and security of the facility following use. The hours are 6 - 10 PM on weeknights (Monday - Friday) and 8 AM - 10 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. Weekend work is split into two shifts. The Department of Parks & Recreation conducts DMV records checks on all employees driving for work purposes and criminal background checks on all hires age 18 years or older. Fingerprinting may be required. Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and 1 year of related experience.
  • Current employees of PWCPS.
  • Candidates must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public (customer service) through use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.
  • Candidates must have physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Plans, coordinates, and monitors recreation program lessons and activities; creates and evaluates lesson plans; prepares class materials; and ensures participant safety.
  • Prepares and maintains recreation lesson and activity schedules of offered services; and updates participants on program changes.
  • Inspects, monitors, and maintains recreation equipment and environment.
  • Prepares and maintains reports and other related documentation.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
  • Opening and setting up of the facility for league and community use.
  • Supervision and security of facility during use.
  • Cleaning, restoration and security of the facility following use.
