About The Position

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is seeking a Manager of Transfer Station to oversee the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the transfer station. This role is crucial for leading site personnel, driving operational performance, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing facility and budgets, and fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. IWS is a progressive provider of solid waste and recycling services in the greater New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, with a commitment to high-quality services and employee safety.

Requirements

Associate’s degree required; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience considered.
3-5 years of operations experience, preferably in solid waste, environmental services, or a related industry.
3+ years of leadership experience managing frontline and supervisory employees.
Experience in a unionized environment, including employee relations, investigations, and grievance handling.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety programs, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Experience managing operational budgets, workforce planning, and cost controls.
Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills with a data-driven approach.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and operational management systems.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends as business needs require.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform routine site inspections.

Responsibilities

Direct and oversee daily transfer station operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant performance.
Lead, coach, develop, and manage site personnel, including scale operators, equipment operators, and labor employees.
Ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA requirements, environmental regulations, permits, and facility operating standards.
Monitor operational performance, identify trends and issues, and implement corrective actions to improve productivity, service, and cost efficiency.
Oversee loading, unloading, weighing, sorting, and material movement activities to maximize throughput and customer service.
Manage facility budgets, labor, equipment utilization, maintenance programs, and operating expenses to achieve financial objectives.
Conduct incident investigations, determine root causes, and ensure appropriate corrective actions, retraining, and accountability measures are implemented.
Lead site safety initiatives, conduct regular safety meetings and training, and reinforce a safety-first culture throughout the operation.
Perform routine facility inspections and ensure timely resolution of operational, safety, and maintenance concerns.
Maintain positive relationships with customers, regulatory agencies, municipalities, and other stakeholders to support operational and business objectives.
Provide regular reporting and communication to leadership regarding operational performance, safety, compliance, and improvement opportunities.
