Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago Job Description Shifts Available: Day Shift and Evening Shift General Summary: Oversees, coordinates, and directs service specific activities in the Security Services program and personnel by providing high quality, convenient, compassionate, personalized customer care, while maintaining a nurturing and protective environment. Develops and implements programs in these specific areas that meet the needs of those that we are called to serve at Lurie Children’s. Promotes a leadership style and philosophy that models and promotes the vision of Lurie Children’s. Actively supports all departmental and hospital Quality Improvement and Customer Service goals by modeling appropriate behaviors and providing a work environment conducive to the goals. Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three years of experience in the field of management in a Security Services/Law Enforcement/Military related field required.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Must become familiar with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to exhibit proficiency in use of Word Processing/Data Entry software (Microsoft Word and Excel), Electronic Medical Records software (EPIC) and other computer programs utilized by the hospital and security department.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates security activities to safeguard patients, families, employees, guests, or others on Lurie property.
  • Assists in emergency management and contingency planning. Coordinates security operations or activities with public law enforcement, fire and other agencies. Responds to medical emergencies, bomb threats, fire alarms, or intrusion alarms, following emergency response procedures.
  • Collects, analyzes, evaluates and recommends action based on security data to determine security needs and/or risks, improves processes, and implements changes to achieve security program goals. Actively participates in continuous quality improvement (Q.I.) activities.
  • Rounds and communicates with Security and Hospital Staff. Interacts with all patients, visitors, medical staff and employees. Cooperates with Security and Hospital Staff to affect positive outcomes across all shifts and hospital wide.
  • Holds all staff accountable to Security Department and Hospital Policies and Procedures. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and TJC regulations related to the department and, as appropriate, to the facility.
  • Develops, monitors, and amends policies and procedures associated with areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains required records and prepares reports including but, not limited to the following: bi-weekly labor reports, incident reports, quality assurance reports, statistical and analytical reports.
  • Directly manages supervisory personnel in the security services department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, recruitment and on boarding, training, task management, performance appraisals, counseling and disciplinary action, and conflict resolution.
  • Conducts investigations, maintains records, writes, or reviews security-related documents, such as incident reports involving losses, or violations of regulations, policies and procedures. Appears in court as necessary on the behalf of the hospital.
  • Trains security supervisors, officers or other organization members in security rules and procedures.
  • Plans, organizes, and facilitates orientation for new hires and in-service training for staff members.
  • Partners with Security Services training coordinator and hospital educators to define and coordinate the staff members training and continuing education. Maintains competency measures to assess staff development and proficiency levels. Provides one-on-one educational experiences as well as team or group presentations relevant to the Security Staff.
  • Manages and tracks Security Services expenses monthly, monitors ETA, schedules, and service call volumes to reduce overtime and utilize staff appropriately. Assists with fiscal planning for the Security Services Department.
  • Participates in hospital training including but not limited to the following: new employee orientation, Infection Control, Security and Safety Training, Fire Safety, Infant Abduction, MSDS, Emergency Preparedness, and EMTALA Education Training.
