About The Position

Symbotic is seeking a Manager of Robotics Fleet Hardware Engineering to lead the mechanical development team for a mobile robot product line. This role is crucial for scaling reliable robotic platforms by overseeing hardware design, manufacturing readiness, and sustaining improvements from concept through production. The ideal candidate is a creative and collaborative individual with deep technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a passion for solving real-world robotics challenges in an agile development environment. This position requires effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, including contract manufacturers, and hands-on problem-solving in production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years engineering experience, including at least 2 years management experience focused on robotics, automation, automotive, aerospace, or electromechanical systems.
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks or similar CAD tools, plus experience with PDM/PLM systems.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting contract manufacturers, including DFM reviews, ECNs, and production issue resolution.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with suppliers, manufacturers, and internal engineering teams.
  • Willing to travel up to 25% (field site visits).

Nice To Haves

  • Masters/PHd Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience with mobile robots, AGV, AMR, or warehouse automation systems.
  • Familiarity with PPAP, FMEA, and quality systems in high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with structural or thermal FEA using ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation.
  • Hands-on experience designing jigs, fixtures, tooling, or manufacturing support equipment.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and manufacturing methods such as sheet metal, machining, injection molding, and die casting.
  • Exposure to field service troubleshooting, sustaining engineering, or post-launch product support.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the mechanical engineering manager responsible for the mobile 4-wheeled robot product lines, owning hardware from concept, release, production ramp, and sustaining through end-of-life.
  • Drive the development of mechanical assemblies including structural frames, drive systems, electromechanical packaging, and supporting hardware components.
  • Collaborate with contract manufacturers, supporting production builds, troubleshooting defects, and resolving quality escapes through RCCA methods.
  • Ensure project plans and delivery commitments are met on-time.
  • Coach, mentor, and lead a diverse group of 5-10 engineers, helping them to grow technically and professionally.
  • Promote and instill best practices in mechanical engineering development and production field issue problem solving.
  • Help attract and develop top tier talent through recruitment activities and workforce development.
