About The Position

The Manager of Materials is responsible for developing and maintaining material and inventory control systems, managing material scheduling in a Just-in-Time (JIT) environment, and supporting material activities associated with a Directed Buy process. This role also assists in resolving contract management issues impacting material availability and manages accurate inventory records within the company's ERP system (MfgPro) and customer's MRP system. The position involves monitoring material flow between suppliers, the company, and the customer to ensure production requirements are met and proactively preventing crisis situations. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining a plan for every part (PFEP) database, analyzing part specifications to resolve errors, and analyzing engineering changes to address material impact for product launches. The role also involves developing and managing inbound premium freight, establishing and maintaining strong customer and supplier relationships, and supporting plant teams with receiving, shipping, and material storage issues. Additionally, the Manager of Materials assists in the development and continuous improvement of plant layouts, follows safe practices, champions local supply chain system processes and documents, drafts and releases documents, and approves changes to local supply chain processes. The role includes developing, monitoring, and implementing the team’s annual goals through continuous improvement activities, providing materials support and expertise, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Material Control Systems and Materials Requirement Planning Systems (QAD’s MfgPro and preferably customer specific MRP and container management systems).
  • Working knowledge of material flows, layouts, packaging and containerization.
  • Ability to plan and analyze production requirements and implement supporting material systems and business processes.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and leadership ability, especially for collaborating with others internally and externally to accomplish goals and resolve issues.
  • Highly organized and detailed to establish priorities, identify and set goals.
  • Able to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines and be able to perform self-initiated and planned activities.
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949 and other customer specific requirements.
  • Tact, a sense of urgency, and an overall customer satisfaction focus.
  • Ability to reconcile accounts.
  • Functions well in a team environment.
  • Enjoys spending time analyzing, questioning, discussing and implementing new ideas.
  • Demonstrated and creative ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite of software, particularly MS Excel and use of spreadsheets for managing and analyzing data.
  • Bachelor's degree (Materials Management, Finance, or Business Administration) required.
  • 7+ years Materials Management experience in the automotive industry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain material and inventory control systems.

  • Developing, monitoring and implementing the team’s annual goals through its ongoing continuous improvement activities.
  • Providing Materials support and expertise.
  • All other duties as assigned.
