About The Position

The Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) invites well-qualified candidates to apply for the position of In-Service Manager. This position manages in-service and mandated continuing education training to local and state law enforcement officers through Mobile Team Units (MTUs) in accordance with applicable state laws and Board policies. They will also plan and develop new, revised, and existing ILETSB in-service training program policies and improvements for School Resource Officers (SRO), Lead Homicide Investigators, Traffic Safety, Annual Training for Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs, Training for Sheriffs, and other programs. The ideal candidate for this position will have prior professional experience working within the guidelines and policies related to in-service and mandated law enforcement training in Illinois and professional experience identifying and defining the needs of law enforcement training operations and budget preparation. A successful history of professional experience developing and managing a supportive agency program and experience developing, installing, and evaluating new and revised methods, procedures, and standards are also necessary for success in this role. ILETSB’s main headquarters is conveniently located at the southern edge of downtown Springfield in a beautifully maintained building across from the Lincoln’s Home National Historic Site with free secured parking on-site. The Board’s Chicago office is located in the Near West Side and also offers free parking on-site.

Requirements

Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in criminal justice, criminology, police science, law enforcement, legal studies, and/or law.
Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in the delivery of law enforcement and/or correctional officer training.
Requires valid Illinois driver’s license and the ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other law enforcement/criminal justice related topics relevant to the job duties.
Requires the ability to pass an extensive criminal background and employment history check.

Responsibilities

Under general direction of the Deputy Director of Training, serves as the Manager of In-Service Training.
Manages in-service and mandated continuing education training to local and state law enforcement officers through Mobile Team Units (MTUs) in accordance with applicable state laws and Board policies.
Organizes, plans, develops, and implements new, revised, and existing training program policies and improvements for training programs, including School Resource Officers (SRO), Lead Homicide Investigators, Traffic Safety, Annual Training for Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs, Annual Training for Sheriffs, while staying in compliance with statutory authority and Board policy.
Serves as a technical expert on State of Illinois In-Service and Mandated Training.
Completes assigned special and routine projects, often of a sensitive and confidential nature, for the Deputy Director of Training and Executive Director.
Serves as full line supervisor.
At the direction of the Deputy Director of Training and/or Executive Director, serves on various committees, including the Mobile Team Unit Advisory Committees.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
