About The Position

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manager of General Manufacturing 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This leadership position will be in Clearfield, Utah. This position is on-site and cannot be performed remotely due to the nature of the role. The Manager of General Manufacturing 2 – Day Shift in Clearfield leads a team of machinists and manufacturing technicians producing precision components in support of key aerospace and defense programs. This role is accountable for safety, quality, cost, and schedule performance within a machining-focused manufacturing area and works closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Production Control, and Programs to meet customer and business commitments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of related experience and 2 years of leadership experience, or a master's degree with 3 years of related experience and 2 years of leadership experience, or an associate's degree with 7 years of related experience and 2 years of leadership experience. In lieu of a degree, the candidate must have a high school diploma and 9 years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience (supervisor, team lead, or equivalent) in a production environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, and machining-related documentation; basic understanding of GD&T.
  • Ability to work on-site, day shift in Clearfield, with flexibility to support off-shift or weekend coverage as business needs require.
  • Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated Secret Clearance and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field.
  • Experience in machining in a composite manufacturing environment (e.g., CNC milling, turning, multi-axis machining).
  • Experience in aerospace/defense manufacturing or other highly regulated environment.
  • Prior leadership experience in a machining organization at Northrop Grumman or similar large manufacturer.
  • Hands-on experience with Lean / Six Sigma, 5S, and continuous improvement in machining or fabrication operations.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP and MES systems (e.g., SAP or equivalent), and standard production control processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to use data to drive actions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions.
  • An active U.S. Government Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily leadership on day-shift Monday-Thursday (6AM-4:30PM) for machine operations (CNC and/or manual machining cells), including work assignment, priority setting, and coordination with other shifts as needed.
  • Ensure safe operations by enforcing EHS requirements, driving 5S, and leading/participating in incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Own area KPIs for safety, quality, delivery, and cost; review metrics regularly and implement corrective / preventive actions.
  • Coordinate Production Control and Programs to execute schedules, resolve material/constraint issues, and support on-time delivery.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to implement process changes, improve cycle times, and support new product introductions / rate increases.
  • Drive continuous improvement using Lean tools (standard work, visual management, 5S, waste elimination) to improve throughput and first-pass yield.
  • Ensure adherence to machine controls, configuration management, and applicable special process / workmanship standards.
  • Lead staffing and workforce planning for all shifts: hiring, onboarding, training, cross-training, and succession planning for machinists and technicians across several IPT’s.
  • Conduct regular performance discussions and annual reviews; coach, develop, and recognize team members.
  • Coordinate equipment utilization and maintenance (CNC mills, multi-axis machines, fixtures, tooling) to maintain capability and availability.
  • Support internal and external audits, customer visits, and program reviews by preparing and presenting area status, risks, and recovery plans.
