About The Position

The Manager of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting will assist in preparing technical accounting memos on issues relevant to Alarm.com and researching authoritative accounting guidance under U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("GAAP"), under the direction of the Director of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting. The position will also support the implementation of new accounting standards. The role is also responsible for preparing the Form 10-Ks, 10-Qs and related financial schedules supporting the financial statement disclosures, along with other Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") filings (e.g., 8-Ks), and for the completion and review of eXtensible Business Reporting Language ("XBRL") on a quarterly basis. Additional responsibilities include assessing the accounting for and tracking of development projects eligible for capitalization, calculating credit losses under the Current Expected Credit Losses model, assisting with due diligence and purchase accounting procedures for acquisitions, coordinating with third-party valuation experts on intangible asset valuations, reviewing customer and vendor contracts as well as lease contracts to assess proper accounting treatment, and performing financial reporting and process controls on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, as necessary. The Manager will also assist in gathering support for external auditors and responding to questions related to tests of controls, interim procedures, quarterly reviews and year-end audits, helping ensure support schedules are accurate and provided to auditors on a timely basis. This role is best suited for someone who enjoys being in the office and working closely with teammates and cross-functional partners in support of the broader organization and team goals.

Requirements

  • B.A. in Accounting; active CPA required
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in public accounting (Big Four accounting experience preferred) and/or corporate financial reporting at a publicly traded company
  • Experience performing technical accounting research, including drafting memorandums that summarize accounting guidance and its impact on operations and financial statement disclosures
  • Experience drafting or reviewing 10-Qs and 10-Ks of a publicly traded company
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP guidelines and SEC reporting requirements
  • Ability to summarize complex accounting issues in a technical memorandum
  • Strong background and experience with audit methodologies and techniques
  • Strong project management, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team to complete projects, as well as independently
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP guidelines, SEC reporting requirements and auditor methodologies.
  • Strong ability to research, assess the impact of, and document technical accounting issues.
  • Strong project management, time management and organizational skills, with a strong work ethic.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning systems and financial reporting tools, along with a curiosity and intent to evolve as AI tools become available.

Responsibilities

  • Research technical accounting issues and draft memorandums summarizing the applicable guidance and its impact on operations and financial statement disclosures.
  • Draft 10-Ks and 10-Qs and related financial schedules in accordance with presentation and disclosure requirements.
  • Prepare other SEC filings (e.g., 8-Ks) and complete and review XBRL on a quarterly basis.
  • Assist with the implementation of new accounting standards.

  • Calculate the credit loss percentage to be applied to outstanding receivables on a quarterly basis.

  • Analyze lease contracts, identify lease and non-lease components and determine the proper accounting treatment.
  • Perform due diligence and purchase accounting procedures for acquisitions, including creating and executing work plans and drafting memos summarizing findings and technical accounting issues.
  • Coordinate with third-party valuation experts for intangible asset valuations and review valuation reports.
  • Assist in gathering support for external auditors and answer questions related to tests of controls, interim procedures, quarterly reviews and year-end audits.
  • Perform financial reporting and other process controls on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, as necessary.
