Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis

IndeVets•Charlestown, RI
•Hybrid

About The Position

FP&A at IndeVets isn’t a reporting function. It’s the team leadership turns to when we’re deciding what to try next, and the one that tells us honestly whether it worked. As Manager of FP&A, you’ll lead the planning engine for the company (budgets, forecasts, long-range plans, and monthly business reviews) using a rich operating dataset and an AI-augmented toolkit that many finance teams are still only talking about. FP&A is changing fast, and we’re leaning in. We’re early adopters of AI tools that augment the FP&A role and process. FP&A roles are evolving quickly, and here you’ll have the support and the mandate to accelerate that shift at a company that’s already embracing the benefits. The data is already here. We have a strong set of data to support analytics, trending, and management of the business. You’ll spend your time on insight, not chasing down numbers. We like to try new things. IndeVets embraces change and isn’t afraid to try new things. We look to FP&A to lead and support those decisions with thoughtful analysis: what to try, how to measure it, and when to double down or move on. A partner, not just a backer. We’re backed by a supportive, collaborative private equity group that’s invested in our growth and in building a best-in-class finance function. Your work gets seen. This role has direct exposure to the leadership team and our PE partners. Your models and recommendations land where decisions get made.

Requirements

  • Experience partnering with operations teams (scheduling, recruiting, HR) and translating between their world and finance
  • Experience building financial models that incorporate the operational nuances of the business and effectively predict the trajectory of our financial results
  • Genuine curiosity about AI and a track record of using new tools to change how work actually gets done, not just experimenting on the side
  • Comfort being the person who says “here’s what the data actually shows,” even when it’s not the answer the room was hoping for
  • Experience presenting to senior leaders, boards, or investors, and shaping the story for the audience
  • Energy for change and ambiguity. You’d rather help shape a new initiative than report on a stable one
  • A builder’s mindset: when you see a manual, repetitive process, you start redesigning it
  • Exposure to a PE-backed, high-growth, or multi-site services business where operational drivers move the P&L
  • Smart and clever. You find the simplest model that answers the question and know when good enough is good enough.
  • Approachable. Operations and recruiting leaders come to you early because you make finance easy to work with.
  • Confident. You stand behind your numbers in front of leadership and our investors, and you’re quick to say what you don’t know yet.
  • Knowledgeable. You keep up with how FP&A and AI are evolving and bring what you learn back to the team.
  • Empathetic. You remember that behind every metric is a doctor, a partner hospital, or a teammate, and that shapes your recommendations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of progressive finance experience, including 3+ years focused on FP&A
  • Advanced Excel modeling skills, including driver-based and scenario models
  • Strong technical and data skills, with comfort working in large datasets and BI tools (SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools (such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Copilot) in analytical or finance work
  • Experience leading analysts or owning a planning process end-to-end
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including presenting to senior leaders

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a private equity-backed company, including board and investor reporting
  • Background in staffing, healthcare services, veterinary, or other multi-site service businesses

Responsibilities

  • Own the plan. Build and run driver-based budgets, rolling forecasts, the long-range plan, and monthly business reviews that tie financial results to the operational levers behind them.
  • Turn data into decisions. Translate financial and operational data across scheduling, recruiting, sales, and HR into trends, visualizations, and clear recommendations that leaders act on.
  • Lead the analysis behind change. Model scenarios, benchmark, and build the business case for new initiatives, then measure the results, so our appetite for trying new things is matched by rigor in evaluating them.
  • Accelerate AI adoption in finance. Find where AI can automate, augment, or reimagine FP&A work (data prep, forecasting, variance commentary, ad-hoc analysis), put it into practice, and set the standard for how the team uses it well.
  • Be a trusted voice in the room. Prepare and present materials for the leadership team and our private equity partners, and be the person they call with the follow-up question.

Benefits

  • Base Salary: $150,000
  • Performance Bonus: Annual target of 15% of base salary
  • Equity: Eligible for equity participation (details provided during the interview process)
  • Perks: Remote flexibility (hybrid in Philadelphia, PA for local candidates), generous PTO, professional development budget, and the opportunity to make a real dent in the universe.
