About The Position

Charles R. Drew University (CDU) is seeking a Manager of Corporate & Foundation Relations to plan and execute the institution's public relations and fundraising programs. This role involves identifying and soliciting corporations and private foundations, building and sustaining partnerships to secure monetary support, and developing compelling proposals. The Manager will work with administration, faculty, volunteers, and other stakeholders to align University initiatives with philanthropic profiles. Key responsibilities include managing a portfolio of prospects, preparing and implementing solicitation strategies, analyzing information from various university departments, building relationships with faculty and staff to enhance proposal quality, writing grants, managing the proposal process, monitoring grant deliverables, and preparing reports. The role also involves collaborating with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), coordinating site visits, preparing briefing materials, communicating progress to leadership, visiting with foundation leaders, supporting multi-disciplinary agendas, preparing summary documents, and ensuring Corporate and Foundation Relations is viewed as a service-oriented unit. The Manager may also manage grant writers to increase philanthropy for CDU and its programs and perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Regionally accredited Bachelor’s degree
  • 5-7 years of increasingly responsible experience in corporate and foundation relations, development, grants, or a related area
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, manage, and coordinate multiple projects, programs, and activities
  • Ability to keep confidence and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently or in a group/team setting
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize workloads

Responsibilities

  • Plans and executes the institution's public relations and fundraising programs.
  • Identifies and solicits corporations and private foundations.
  • Build and sustains short- and long-term partnerships and relationships to obtain corporate and foundation monetary support.
  • Develops compelling proposals for new prospects and oversees the solicitation of gifts and grants.
  • Work directly with administration and faculty, volunteers, development colleagues, and other stakeholders to match University initiatives with corporate and private foundation philanthropic profiles.
  • Identify and develop and manage a portfolio of corporate and private foundation prospects that will increase support for the university’s priorities.
  • Prepare, recommend, and implement solicitation strategies with a keen interest in fulfilling stewardship and reporting requirements.
  • Analyze, interpret, summarize and synthesize information from a diverse range of fields and activities within the three colleges, the president’s priorities, and other general priorities.
  • Build strong relationships with faculty and staff and manage those over time to enhance the number and quality of proposals submitted.
  • Writes grants and/or manages the proposal process from beginning to end with an emphasis on quality; and when funded, monitors grant deliverables and prepares grant reports in concert with the grant PI.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) on approaches to grant-making institutions.
  • Coordinate site visits and campus tours for corporate and private foundation leadership to meet with university officials.
  • Prepare and provide appropriate briefing materials to CDU leadership.
  • Provide regular communication to Director of Development and other leadership about progress made in moving prospects toward gift closure.
  • Make visits with selected corporate and private foundation leaders and university officials.
  • Provide support to the organization in advancing multi-disciplinary agendas.
  • Prepare summary documents for review and discussions regarding new initiatives.
  • Help to ensure that Corporate and Foundation Relations is viewed as a service-oriented unit of university development and the office of strategic advancement (OSA) in general, by providing an excellent work product.
  • Manages grant writers as appropriate to increase philanthropy for CDU and its programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
