About The Position

Seeking a dedicated and dynamic Labor and Delivery (L&D) Manager. This role is accountable for ensuring the provision of patient care 24 hours a day. The manager will be responsible for assigned clinical operations, patient care activities, and coordinating patient care delivery daily in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. This includes ensuring patient care is delivered in accordance with professional, regulatory, and medical center standards. The role involves establishing and enforcing standards of patient care and nursing practice, developing and implementing unit-based quality improvement programs and goals for the delivery of quality patient care. The manager will assure compliance with department standards by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care delivery, reinforcing positive outcomes, and demonstrating corrective action for identified problems. Accountability extends to appropriate patient care based on assignments, evaluation of patient care, and patient/family satisfaction through rounds and interventions. The manager will act as a patient advocate for ethical and legal issues and support cultural practices. Additionally, the role focuses on staff retention by tracking turnover rates and implementing strategies for reduction. Clinical competence is maintained by assisting with patient care, and the manager will spend time on all shifts to assess care and coach, develop, evaluate, and advocate for staff. Collaboration with the clinical nurse specialist and/or clinical educator is key for identifying, planning, and implementing educational programs. The manager will also hear and adjust up to step-two grievances.

Requirements

  • 3 years of recent experience in Labor & Delivery nursing.
  • At least 2 years Charge, Supervisory, or Manager experience in Labor and Delivery.
  • Bachelor's Degree in BSN from an accredited school of nursing, or ADN and a commitment to obtain BSN within two years of date of hire.
  • Washington Registered Nurse License (Upon hire).
  • National Provider BLS - American Heart Association (Upon hire).

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the provision of patient care 24 hours a day.
  • Accountable for assigned clinical operations and patient care activities.
  • Coordinating patient care delivery on a daily basis in collaboration with other members of the health care team.
  • Ensuring that patient care is delivered in accordance with professional, regulatory, and medical center standards.
  • Establishing and enforcing standards of patient care and nursing practice pertaining to areas of responsibility.
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring unit-based quality improvement programs.
  • Developing and implementing unit-based goals for the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the delivery of patient care by reinforcing positive outcomes and demonstrating corrective action for identified problems.
  • Conducting rounds and intervening to ensure appropriate patient care based on assignments, evaluation of patient care, and patient/family satisfaction.
  • Assuming the role of patient advocate to clarify and evaluate ethical and/or legal issues, and supporting cultural practices.
  • Tracking staff turnover rate of all categories of personnel and actively taking steps to ensure the reduction of turnover among her/his staff.
  • Assisting with patient care in order to maintain clinical skills.
  • Spending time on all shifts to assess care and to coach, develop, evaluate and advocate for staff.
  • Collaborating with the clinical nurse specialist and/or clinical educator to identify, plan, and implement an educational program pertinent to the service and for all levels of staff.
  • Hearing and adjusting up to step-two grievances.
  • Sharing responsibility for quality, finance, staffing, and the patient and caregiver experience.
  • Continuing to focus on culture work surrounding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts for patients, caregivers, and providers.
  • Emphasizing quality metrics, including NTSV, and collaborating with the RN team for sustained improvement.
  • Partnering with the CNS, Perinatal Educator, and team on evidence-based practice changes.
  • Interviewing and hiring experienced staff RNs, travelers, and candidates for the residency/fellowship program for L&D.
