Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience maintaining diesel locomotives or railcars
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience
  • Knowledge of the safe handling of hazardous and nonhazardous waste products
  • Knowledge of all aspects of the maintenance and repair of locomotives’ mechanical and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of FRA and company maintenance procedures; knowledge of AAR and FRA regulations pertaining to car repair and inspections (if maintaining railcars)
  • Effective computer skills (Microsoft Office, applications, reporting, etc.)
  • Ability to manage hourly and salaried employees
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with other departments and supervisors
  • Experience working in a safety-sensitive work environment
  • Possess situational awareness and decision-making abilities to respond effectively in a safety sensitive environment
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Pre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical review
  • May be subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment drug screening
  • Background screening including criminal and motor vehicle driving history

  • Associate's degree in a related field is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Ensure and audit compliance with all federal, state, and other applicable railroad safety and operational regulations
  • Maintain accurate employee safety records and schedule safety presentations, job briefings, and training sessions
  • Direct locomotive maintenance schedules and coordinate with Transportation when locomotives must be directed to the shop
  • Manage bad-order railcars to minimize downtime and car-hire costs
  • Certify locomotive maintenance files to comply with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations and G&W record retention
  • Coordinate and schedule repair activities to ensure manpower, shop space, and materials are available
  • Assist in budget preparation and manage expenses within approved guidelines
  • Support the development of capital spending plans
  • Maintain optimum inventory level to support repair activities ordering materials as required
  • Coordinate and direct required training for employees including safety, technical and, and environmental
  • Provide technical expertise to support mechanical operations
  • Keep accurate records and reports in compliance with FRA regulations and company policy
  • Collaborate with others on repair strategies and project planning
  • Interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and repair instructions
  • Assist with projects and perform other duties as assigned
