About The Position

As a Mechanical Manager, you’ll play a key leadership role in managing employees responsible for maintaining and repairing locomotives and railcars. Your focus will be on ensuring compliance with all safety standards, optimizing maintenance processes, and improving equipment reliability while reducing life-cycle costs. Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience maintaining diesel locomotives
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience managing direct reports
  • Knowledge of the safe handling of hazardous and nonhazardous waste products
  • Knowledge of all aspects of the maintenance and repair of locomotives’ mechanical and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of AAR and FRA regulations and maintenance procedures pertaining to car and /or locomotive repairs and inspections
  • Effective computer skills (Microsoft Office, applications, reporting, etc.)
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with other departments
  • Possess situational awareness and decision-making abilities to respond effectively in a safety sensitive environment
  • High school diploma or GED; Associate's degree in a related field is a plus
  • Valid driver's license
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Pre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical review
  • May be subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment drug screening
  • Background screening including criminal and motor vehicle driving history
  • Must live within 50 miles of assigned location or be willing to relocate

Responsibilities

  • Audit and maintain compliance including accurate record keeping for all federal, state, and other applicable railroad safety and operational regulations (for example, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Association of American Railroads (AAR))
  • Maintain accurate employee safety records and schedule safety presentations, job briefings, and training sessions for technical and environmental requirements
  • Coordinate with Transportation and other departments on equipment maintenance schedules
  • Ensure that all repairs and maintenance are completed timely and accurately to minimize equipment downtime and costs
  • Certify locomotive maintenance files to comply with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations and G&W record retention
  • Schedule repairs and maintenance ensuring there is available manpower, shop space, and materials
  • Assist in budget preparation and manage expenses within approved guidelines
  • Support the development of capital spending plans
  • Maintain optimum inventory level to support repair activities ordering materials as required
  • Provide technical expertise to support mechanical operations
  • Collaborate with others on repair strategies and project planning
  • Interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and repair instructions
  • Assist with projects and perform other duties as assigned
