Engineering Manager The Engineering Manager leads Product Lifecycle Engineering (PLE) and New Product Development (NPD) for our commercial sliding door systems and glass curtainwall products. They drive the prioritization and allocation of resources to deliver design projects that improve performance, reduce warranty exposure, add features, and optimize cost. They provide product engineering support to Factory Operations and related support functions. Additionally, they are responsible for the design and development of new products within a commercial product category. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. The company does not intend to provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B, TN, etc.) for this employment position.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate in a professional, positive, courteous manner at all times with all levels of management, customers, vendors, visitors and employees
  • Willingness to spend up to 50% of time in a plant environment
  • Self-motivated with ability to establish priorities and effectively manage time to complete multiple tasks within specified timeframes
  • Ability to evaluate incoming work requests and assign or prioritize appropriately
  • Ability to work independently and/or cooperatively and effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent project management and facilitation skills – prefer working knowledge of Microsoft Project
  • Organized with a strong sense of urgency
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to apply critical analysis to evaluate situations and make decisions that benefit the business and engineering team
  • Develop Engineers/Team Members professionally
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and database software (prefer Microsoft Office Products)
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business data, engineering reports, and standards
  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • 5-10 years of experience in manufacturing and/or product design engineering

Responsibilities

  • Solve problems using data-driven decision making processes throughout team
  • Maintain and support product roadmaps with Product Managment
  • Represent Product Engineering in Value Stream Management activities and work with Product Management and Plant Management to drive improvements in key business metrics
  • Set clear objectives for performance and development of direct reports
  • Provide prioritization and task clarity for direct reports and engage in ongoing coaching and guidance to deliver expected results
  • Develop and implement product value engineering opportunities
  • Manage local test lab activity for product improvements and coordinate with other labs on compliance testing
  • Effectively communicate in a professional, positive, courteous manner at all times with all levels of employees, visitors, vendors and customers
  • Maintain awareness of all Allegion policies, guidelines, and procedures and ensure compliance
