About The Position

The Manager of the Mechanical Engineering team is a key leadership role responsible for advancing Gastops’ mechanical engineering discipline in alignment with the organization’s commitment to innovation, technical excellence, and customer value. This role combines people leadership, discipline capability management, and delivery accountability, with a strong focus on enabling team members to perform at their best. You will lead a team of mechanical engineers to deliver cost effective, pragmatic solutions that meet customer needs, while fostering a culture aligned with Gastops’ values of commitment, collaboration, respect and inclusion, innovation and community. While leadership is the primary focus, you are also expected to remain technically engaged; supporting, reviewing, approving, and, where required, contributing directly to mechanical engineering work.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering with recent experience in team management.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience, with a focus on enabling, coaching, and developing engineers, designers and technologists.
  • Deep expertise in mechanical engineering, including design, analysis, and product development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across a range of highly complex and assured industries (e.g. aerospace, marine, wind, energy, etc.).
  • Proven ability to lead within a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Experience reviewing and approving engineering work with a strong emphasis on quality and integrity.
  • Ability to remain technically engaged while leading teams and managing competing priorities.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration.
  • Progressive experience in mechanical engineering, including leadership roles and managing others.

  • Promote continuous improvement, innovation, and the adoption of new technologies.
  • Take accountability for ensuring engineering work is delivered to the right quality, first time, every time.
  • Responsible for managing the teams workload and identifying opportunities to maximize utilization.
  • Manage the department budget aligned with the plan.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight across mechanical engineering activities.
  • Review and approve designs, analyses, and technical documentation to ensure quality and compliance with business and industry practices.
  • Balance leadership responsibilities with hands-on contributions to complex or critical technical work.
  • Support the team to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the standard expected by our clients or stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks while supporting effective problem-solving.
  • Partner with program management, systems engineering, and other disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Engage stakeholders with clear, transparent communication grounded in trust and professionalism.
  • Support proposal development and strategic initiatives with strong technical insight.
