About The Position

The Manager, Master Data Management (MDM) is responsible for leading the organization’s master data management function and ensuring the accuracy, consistency, governance, and availability of critical master data across the food retail enterprise. This role manages a team of Master Data Management Analysts and provides strategic and operational oversight of master data domains - including items, vendors, pricing, and locations-to support merchandising, supply chain, store operations, marketing, e-commerce, and finance. The MDM Manager partners with business and IT leaders to establish standards, optimize processes, and drive continuous improvement in data quality. This position has been segmented as Hybrid meaning there are three onsite days per week and the rest remote. This position can sit in our Rosemont, IL corporate office or in our West Linn, OR office.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in master data management, data governance, or retail data operations
  • 2+ years of experience managing or leading analysts or data professionals.
  • Strong understanding of retail master data domains and governance principles
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Experience working with ERP, MDM, or PIM systems to manage item, vendor, pricing, or location master data.
  • Ability to analyze and reconcile data across multiple systems and sources.
  • Familiarity with reporting tools or dashboards to monitor data quality metrics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain data concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including Merchandising, Supply Chain, Finance, Store Operations, and IT
  • Ability to set priorities, make data-driven decisions, and provide clear direction to a team.
  • Ability to travel: 10%.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in food, grocery, or multi-category retail, including exposure to fresh, frozen, or perishable product data.
  • Strong understanding of retail merchandising and supply chain processes, including item lifecycle management, assortment planning, replenishment, pricing, promotions, and vendor onboarding.
  • Familiarity with omnichannel retail environments, supporting data needs across store, e-commerce, click-and-collect, and delivery channels.
  • Exposure to internal or external audit processes related to data accuracy, vendor compliance, or regulatory reporting.
  • Familiarity with reporting, dashboarding, or visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar) to communicate data quality trends and insights.
  • Experience leveraging data to drive decision-making and influence stakeholders.
  • Certifications in Data Management, Data Governance, or MDM (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Informatica)
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or process improvement certifications
  • Ongoing professional development in data management or retail systems

Responsibilities

  • Own the master data management function and roadmap for the organization.
  • Define master data standards, policies, and governance frameworks.
  • Ensure alignment of master data strategy with business objectives and retail operations.
  • Serve as the accountable owner for assigned master data domains.
  • Establish and enforce data governance, stewardship, and approval workflows.
  • Define and monitor master data quality metrics and KPIs.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness across systems.
  • Partner with compliance and risk teams to support regulatory, audit, and reporting requirements.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for master data-related initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Merchandising, Supply Chain, Finance, Store Operations, Marketing and E-commerce leaders.
  • Translate business requirements into data standards, attributes, and governance processes.
  • Support new item introductions, assortment changes, promotions, and private label initiatives.
  • Oversee master data processes within ERP, MDM, and PIM platforms.
  • Support system implementations, upgrades, and data migration efforts.
  • Identify and lead process improvements to increase efficiency, scalability, and data quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement in master data processes and controls.
  • Ensure documentation of data standards, SOPs, and data definitions.
  • Promote data literacy and best practices across the organization.
  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of Master Data Management Analysts
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.
