This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As part of a hardworking team of engineers you will be responsible for both managing and leading teams in the development, implementation, and transition of valve hardware to production in support of all of Blue's programs. You will have responsibility for employee performance through professional development, mentoring, technical guidance, and development of training opportunities. Technical leadership will be required as a non-advocate reviewer ensuring product excellence through the continuous improvement of our assembly and test processes. You will ultimately help your team to identify, develop, and deploy methods to both improve assembly and test quality while optimizing throughput. You will own metrics and ensure your team performs to those metrics; aligning to production line starts that are best in class. You will serve as a representative within the community of practice for manufacturing engineering at Blue. Lastly, you will be responsible for executing on our strategic insourcing of new ancillary manufacturing processes to further lower the cost of our products and drastically reduce lead time of our deliveries. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university (Master of Science preferred)
  • Experience managing people, projects, or programs
  • Strong coordination, personnel, and project management skills
  • Experience in hardware manufacturing (i.e. castings, forgings, additively manufactured components, welding, machining, cleaning, non-destructive testing methods, tight tolerance assembly, leak testing, final acceptance testing of integrated hardware, and Manufacturing Execution Systems/Software)
  • Proven experience and successful track record of developing new manufacturing processes and continuously improving existing processes
  • Ability to operate, make decisions, lead, and make forward progress in ambiguous environments
  • Understanding of product lifecycle management
  • 7+ years of direct manufacturing and manufacturing engineering experience
  • Proficiency in engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Systems, or Manufacturing engineering
  • Experience in green field or brown field factory layouts and standup
  • Experience supporting or generating capacity analysis

Responsibilities

  • Enable the success of a team comprised of high-impact Manufacturing Engineers
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and support
  • Work closely with each direct report to develop goals, career paths, and ensure professional development
  • Establish roles, responsibilities, and accountability for all team members
  • Ensure workflow and priorities are balanced across the team for multiple engine programs
  • Evaluate staffing requirements and grow the team by recruiting and hiring top performing manufacturing engineers (as needed)
  • Coordinate and work closely with program managers, operations leaders, and Integrated Product Team Leads to meet design, build, and test objectives for all engine programs
  • Support the team in applying robust, consistent, and reliable engineering fundamentals and processes in support of fabrication processes
  • Review and understand companywide processes and command media to ensure proper compliance
  • Help your team define how to prepare hardware for test, qualification, and flight
  • Promote DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test
