About The Position

Hartford HealthCare is Connecticut’s most comprehensive healthcare network, with almost 30,000 employees. Windham Hospital, part of this network for over 75 years, provides high-tech medical care to patients throughout Northeastern Connecticut. The Manager Laboratory Services provides managerial oversight for all sections of the clinical laboratory, including Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Phlebotomy, Anatomic Pathology, and QA. This role may also supervise one specific section. The manager oversees operational and technical activities across these sections, collaborating with the Regional Laboratory Director, Medical Director, and supervisory team to formulate section activities, modify and implement test procedures and policies, and ensure adherence to all regulatory standards (TJC, CAP, CLIA). The position serves as a laboratory resource for hospital staff (e.g., physicians, nursing), participates in the planning and execution of department projects and annual improvement priorities, and assists the Regional Director with departmental budget development and adherence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the physical, chemical, or biological sciences
  • Five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of clinical laboratory supervisory or management experience
  • ASCP (MT, MLS) certification
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. email, Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, POWER POINT)
  • Must possess a working knowledge of overall laboratory operations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments/department leaders/Administration
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks/priorities; ability to prioritize daily work
  • Capable of providing an outstanding customer service experience for patients and staff

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's of Science in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Sciences is preferred
  • Five (5) or more years of clinical laboratory supervisory or management experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides managerial oversight for all sections (Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Phlebotomy, Anatomic Pathology, QA) of the clinical laboratory
  • May supervise one section of the laboratory

  • Works closely with the Regional Laboratory Director, Medical Director, and laboratory supervisory team to formulate section activities
  • Works closely with the Regional Laboratory Director, Medical Director, and laboratory supervisory team to modify and implement test procedures and policies
  • Maintains adherence to all regulatory (TJC, CAP, CLIA) regulations for the general lab as well as for their designated section
  • Acts as the laboratory resource for hospital staff (e.g. physicians, nursing, etc.)
  • Participates in the planning and execution of department projects and annual improvement priorities relative to the Balanced Scorecard Initiatives
  • Assists the Regional Director in the development and adherence to the departmental budgets (salary, non-salary, revenue)
