About The Position

We are seeking a technically exceptional and strategically minded Manager, Interconnection Services to lead large generation and large load interconnection and transmission services activities across the PJM, NYISO, and ISO-NE regions. This role owns the full lifecycle of interconnection—from early-stage prospecting and siting feasibility through queue management, study review, generation and large load interconnection agreement negotiation, and grid synchronization as well as operating asset outage and curtailment monitoring and modification approvals—for one of the largest renewable development portfolios in the Northeast. The Manager will serve as the primary regional expert and decision-maker, partnering closely with internal development, engineering and construction, origination, finance, and regulatory teams, as well as external stakeholders including RTOs/ISOs, Transmission Owners, utilities, and consultants. This individual will also provide strategic technical leadership for M&A diligence, portfolio optimization, and regulatory engagement at FERC and the applicable RTOs. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in generation interconnection, transmission planning, or transmission services development
  • Deep knowledge of PJM, NYISO, and/or ISO-NE interconnection protocols, tariff provisions, and study methodologies (e.g., PJM Manuals 14A–14H, NYISO Attachment HH)
  • Direct experience managing interconnection applications, queue positions, and agreement negotiations within one or more Northeast RTOs
  • Proven ability to review, validate, and interpret interconnection study results, network upgrade requirements, and cost allocation
  • Strong understanding of NERC reliability standards and their application to generator interconnection
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership
  • Proficiency with power system modeling and analysis tools: PSS/E, PowerGEM TARA, ASPEN, PowerWorld
  • Expertise in steady-state thermal/voltage analysis, short-circuit analysis, and transient stability
  • Experience with transmission injection studies, feasibility screening, and prospecting analytics
  • Familiarity with programming or automation approaches to streamline study workflows

  • Familiarity with capacity market rules, resource adequacy evaluation, and Capacity Interconnection Rights (CIRs)

Responsibilities

  • Own and direct interconnection application activities across PJM, NYISO, and ISO-NE, ensuring full compliance with RTO protocols, tariff requirements, study timelines, and regulatory deadlines
  • Manage projects through all interconnection study phases, including cluster studies, System Impact Studies (SIS), Facilities Studies, Affected System Studies, Surplus and Material Modification Assessments
  • Lead execution of Large Generator Interconnection Agreements (LGIAs), Interconnection Service Agreements (ISAs), and transmission service agreements, including amendments and surplus interconnection requests
  • Coordinate directly with RTO/ISO staff, Transmission Owners, and external counsel to advance and protect the project portfolio through the interconnection queue
  • Oversee compliance obligations under applicable RTO manuals and NERC reliability standards
  • Direct and perform prospecting interconnection analyses and transmission feasibility assessments to evaluate project siting, grid impacts and cost estimates
  • Oversee or conduct steady-state thermal/voltage, short-circuit, and transient stability studies using industry-standard tools including PSS/E, PowerGEM TARA, PowerWorld, ASPEN, and DSATools
  • Assess curtailment risk, congestion exposure, LMP basis, and network upgrade exposure to inform siting and investment decisions
  • Identify optimal interconnection points and transmission solutions across a multi-GW development pipeline
  • Provide technical leadership for early-stage project development, including siting analysis, transmission feasibility, and interconnection strategy across the Northeast
  • Lead technical diligence for M&A and acquisition targets, assessing interconnection viability, upgrade exposure, capacity interconnection rights, and portfolio risk
  • Develop and execute strategies for portfolio optimization, including surplus interconnection rights, capacity transfer rights, and participation in RTO reliability initiatives
  • Monitor and interpret RTO/ISO market developments, FERC policy, transmission planning activities (e.g., RTEP), and regulatory changes to proactively influence inform project and corporate strategy
  • Represent NextEra Energy in RTO/ISO stakeholder committees and working groups, actively shaping market rules and interconnection policy
  • Collaborate with a team of interconnection analysts and engineers and foster technical excellence and professional growth
  • Partner with development, engineering, origination, finance, legal, and regulatory teams to advance projects and support investment decisions
  • Prepare and present technical findings, strategic recommendations, and portfolio updates to senior leadership and external stakeholders
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with RTO/ISO staff, Transmission Owners, consultants, and industry partners
  • Identify and implement process improvements to optimize interconnection outcomes, reduce development risk, and improve project economics
