About The Position

The Manager of Institutional Giving leads Linc Housing’s institutional fundraising program, owning the full grant lifecycle, including prospecting, proposal strategy and writing, submission, and reporting across foundation, corporate philanthropy, and government funders. This includes building and maintaining strong, ongoing relationships with program officers and other funder staff to deepen Linc Housing’s standing with key funding partners. The position also maintains a small, defined portfolio of individual donor relationships and serves as a key storytelling and communications partner for the Corporate Development department, helping translate Linc Housing’s mission and impact into compelling narratives for funders, donors, and the broader community. The Manager of Institutional Giving collaborates closely with the Communications Associate on departmental messaging and voice, and owns specific outward-facing storytelling projects, such as the department’s regular newsletters. The position also owns the department’s grant tracking system and master grant calendar and provides direction to the Corporate Development Associate, who maintains and updates the system day-to-day, and provides day-to-day coordination and priority-setting across the broader Corporate Development team. This position may supervise staff as assigned based on the department’s staffing structure and needs. The Manager of Institutional Giving reports to the Director of Corporate Development, and works closely with the Communications Associate, Events & Individual Donor Associate, and Corporate Development Associate to keep departmental priorities and systems on track. Institutional fundraising at Linc Housing is a collaborative effort across the organization. While the Manager of Institutional Giving leads the department’s institutional fundraising strategy and day-to-day execution, the position works in close partnership with Linc Housing’s executive team, who often hold their own relationships with funders, to help coordinate those relationships, identify gaps in funder engagement or coverage, and recommend ways to strengthen or expand those relationships with management and executive leadership.

Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills with foundation and corporate philanthropy program officers, donors, and internal stakeholders.
Strong organizational and project management skills to manage a full grants portfolio, a small donor portfolio, and cross-departmental coordination simultaneously.
Exercise independent judgment and discretion in grant strategy, proposal development, and funder relationship management.
Provide clear direction, establish priorities, and coordinate the work of others; supervise, coach, and support assigned staff as applicable.

A combination of education and related experience may substitute for education requirements.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, public policy, nonprofit management, or related field; master’s degree a plus.
5 or more years of progressively responsible experience in institutional fundraising, grant writing, and grants management, including demonstrated experience managing a grant portfolio and a track record of securing institutional funding.
Strong writing portfolio or writing samples demonstrating storytelling and narrative ability required.
Experience with CRM/donor databases (Raiser’s Edge preferred).

Responsibilities

Own the department's grant tracking system and master grant calendar, including their structure, standards, and content accuracy, covering submission deadlines, reporting deadlines, and compliance requirements across the full grants portfolio, providing direction to the Corporate Development Associate, who maintains and updates the system day-to-day, and reviewing it regularly to ensure it reflects current, accurate information on all active and pending grants.
Own the department’s grants program end-to-end, including prospecting, funder cultivation, proposal strategy, writing, submission, and reporting across the full grants portfolio, spanning foundation grants, corporate philanthropy/corporate giving programs, and government funding.
Build and maintain strong, ongoing relationships with program officers and other funder staff at foundation and corporate philanthropy partners, serving as Linc Housing’s primary point of contact to understand funding priorities, share program updates and results, and identify new opportunities for support.
Research and identify new institutional funding opportunities including foundation grants, corporate philanthropy and corporate giving programs, and government funding that align with Linc Housing’s mission and programs, and build and maintain a robust funding pipeline.
Lead the writing, editing, and submission of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and applications, including for complex, high-value, or multi-year grants.
Own timely, accurate, and compelling grant reporting to funders, ensuring compliance with funder requirements and deadlines.
Develop and manage grant budgets and forecasts in collaboration with department leadership and Accounting.
Provide subject-matter guidance and review to the Corporate Development Associate on grant writing and reporting support during high-volume periods or absences.
Coordinate with Linc Housing’s executive team on their relationships with institutional funders, ensuring outreach, cultivation, and stewardship efforts are aligned and well-managed across the organization.
Assess the organization’s institutional funder relationships on an ongoing basis to identify gaps in engagement or coverage, and bring recommendations to management and the executive team on ways to strengthen or expand those relationships, including opportunities for executive-level engagement with funders.
Serve as the connective point between the Corporate Development department’s day-to-day funder relationship management and executive leadership’s external relationships, helping ensure consistent, coordinated messaging and follow-through; this is a collaborative, team-wide effort in which the Manager of Institutional Giving serves as the lead.
Maintain and cultivate a small, defined portfolio of individual donor prospects (approximately 5 to 10), including research, relationship-building, and stewardship, in coordination with the Events & Individual Donor Associate. Treat this portfolio as secondary to grants responsibilities; grant deadlines take priority, and portfolio size may be adjusted based on grants workload.
Collaborate with the Communications Associate on the department’s overall communications and messaging strategy, helping ensure a consistent, compelling organizational voice across grant materials, donor communications, and public-facing content.
Own the writing and editorial direction of the department’s outward-facing quarterly newsletter to constituents, translating program impact and organizational milestones into compelling stories for donors, funders, and community stakeholders.
Develop core messaging, case statements, and impact narratives about Linc Housing’s mission and programs that can be adapted across grant proposals, donor communications, and marketing materials.
Stay closely informed on Linc Housing’s programs, properties, and impact stories to ensure grant narratives and other written materials reflect current, accurate organizational storytelling.
Partner with the Communications Associate on major campaigns and materials as needed, without having to own day-to-day execution of the department’s broader communications calendar.
Provide direct working direction to the Corporate Development Associate on grant tracking, calendar, and reporting priorities, serving as that position’s day-to-day point of direction on grants-related work.
May supervise staff as assigned.
Coordinate priorities and provide day-to-day direction across the broader Corporate Development team (Communications Associate, Events & Individual Donor Associate, and Corporate Development Associate), helping ensure alignment with departmental goals, particularly during the current Director vacancy.
Facilitate regular team meetings to review grant, donor, and revenue status, priorities, and deadlines.
Serve as a point of continuity for departmental strategic priorities in partnership with department and executive leadership and provide supervision, coaching, and performance management to assigned staff when supervisory responsibilities are designated to the position.
Partner with the Corporate Development Associate’s departmental revenue tracking system to review and validate grant revenue projections and actuals for the department’s annual budget, quarterly tracking, and mid-year forecasting.
Provide grants-related analysis and input to support department-wide fundraising forecasts.
