About The Position

The Transportation Manager will lead the execution of safe, effective, and efficient outbound transportation at the new Chick-fil-A Supply Distribution Center (DC) in Winter Haven, FL. This role has the opportunity to refine and improve outbound transportation procedures and service standards for the operation, helping drive continued innovation. The leader will support Chick-fil-A’s vision and strategy while embodying the corporate purpose. This position requires a leader who can call upon a diverse range of skills and experiences to support overall operations. The role is highly interdependent with the other divisions of the distribution center and Chick-fil-fil-A Supply Services, requiring the Transportation Leader to foster relationships with a wide range of people to execute their responsibilities. This calls for a dynamic leader who has a heart for service and compassion coupled with a mind for effectively supporting the management of the business. Furthermore, this role will be uniquely challenged with their participation in the stand up of a brand-new DC and the testing and refinement of a new facility implementation playbook to assist in the stand up of future facilities. Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in outbound distribution operations, transportation, food distribution, and/or private fleet responsibility.
  • Strong aptitude to think critically, solve problems, and drive improvements in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Demonstrated functional knowledge and expertise in distribution, including outbound transportation procedures and regulations, routing, transportation equipment, performance metrics, and supplier management.
  • Working knowledge of innovations in supply chain and outbound transportation and equipment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to ensure compliance with general safety standards, quality specifications, and governmental requirements.
  • Ability to work a swing shift and be present to lead your team at night at least 50% of the time.
  • Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and communication skills.
  • Strong ability to negotiate and resolve conflict by navigating confrontational situations to ensure all parties are treated with honor, dignity, and respect.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access; experience with ERP, WMS, and TMS solutions.
  • Proficient communicating in English (reading, writing, and speaking) to safely follow verbal instructions, complete documentation and paperwork, and accurately read and interpret company communications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of supervisors, drivers, and navigators to ensure the on-time, safe and affordable delivery of product to Restaurants.
  • Lead the training and development of supervisors, drivers, and navigators.
  • Instill a culture of safety, engagement and positivity that reflects Chick-fil-A Supply values and serves Restaurant Operators.
  • Improve upon and execute outbound transportation procedures and service standards.
  • Assess the cost and performance of current and alternative outbound transportation procedures and service standards.
  • Lead resource planning for outbound transportation staff and communicate to staffing lead.
  • Lead daily scheduling for outbound transportation and coordinate backhaul.
  • Work with the safety leader to ensure compliance of outbound transportation with federal, state and local government regulations (e.g., driver logs, DOT regulations, etc.).
  • Support regulatory and internal audits of operations.
  • Evaluate operational results and communicate those results to DC leadership.
  • Coordinate with service providers.
  • Define and communicate outbound transportation equipment needs (e.g., tractors and trailers).
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for outbound transportation and delivery service.
  • Balance the needs of the Operator with the capabilities of the operation.
  • Manage the budget of outbound transportation at the DC.
  • Support Chick-fil-A vision and strategy.
  • Drive innovation in the distribution center operation.
  • Utilize and manage TMS, Telematics & proprietary Delivery Applications.
  • Completing other activities as deemed valuable by management.
