About The Position

Where you will work Augusta houses Clearwater Paper’s largest paperboard facility and is home to more than 600 team members. Together, our team makes paperboard used in products across the United States, including food packaging, plates, cups and more. With nearly 65 years of operation, the mill spans 3,000 acres and runs two paper machines that collectively produce up to 1,940 tons per day. Augusta is known worldwide for hosting The Masters golf tournament, but the city offers so much more. What you will do The Maintenance Manager is responsible for development of the organization to achieve expected results in safety, environmental compliance, quality, productivity, cost and employee development. This position will assist the Superintendent and shift department supervisors in coverage of the department responsibilities and manage and lead the department in the Superintendent’s absence. Leadership Responsible for managing the site maintenance group. Provides positive role model for all mill personnel in the area of safety, quality and productivity. Provides guidance, instruction and mentoring for the maintenance staff. Provides periodic feedback to employees in the areas of job knowledge, performance, and development. Provides training where needed to improve employee skill sets critical to the success of the business. Manages employee overtime and equipment reliability to achieve lowest maintenance costs for the mill. Responsible for resolving maintenance employee relations issues. Operations Sets objectives and goals cascaded and aligned to the site’s business plan. Coaches the business unit in the right behaviors. Ensures the business unit works to standards (Safety, Quality, …) Develops the required standards. Coaches and facilitate losses elimination by using problem solving tools Assures the problems are solved (root cause) and tasks are implemented in a sustainable way. Accountable for the business unit operational budget. Defines and executes improvement projects and needs to support midterm plans. Safety and Environmental Compliance Assists with leading the safety effort for the maintenance staff. Identifies safety issues that may arise due to equipment modification. Maintains a clean and orderly environment conducive to safe work habits, encourages employee accountability. Ensures the mill is compliant with local state and federal rules in the area of maintenance equipment

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience (8+ years)
  • Industrial Management or Engineering degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in paper mill maintenance, engineering, project management and/or production management required.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Functional understanding of fire protection and utility (boiler, compressed air, HVAC, etc.) systems, predictive and preventive maintenance (vibration, lube, IR, etc.) programs, work order systems and world-class maintenance systems is desired.
  • Must possess analytical troubleshooting skills.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to foster Continuous Improvement.
  • Able to work in a high-speed manufacturing environment, sustained exposure to high-frequency noises, multiple hours standing, walking on concrete surfaces, heat, and cold and mill environments
  • Able to wear and abide by Personal Protective Equipment that is required in the mill environment
  • Able to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding
  • Could be exposed to hazardous chemicals used in the manufacturing process

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience using a Computer Maintenance Management system preferred (e.g. JD Edwards).
  • Continuous improvement/lean manufacturing experience preferred.
