About The Position

The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager is responsible for providing direction and support for all EH&S activities, including implementation, monitoring, and review of C&W compliance/performance. This role involves creating, managing, and leading the deployment of EH&S programs across the US to ensure safety is integrated into daily operations at each site within Asset Services. The manager will effectively communicate C&W’s safety culture and operating philosophies, assist in identifying and mitigating potential losses, and develop and audit plans to ensure their effectiveness. A key part of the role includes maintaining and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for safe work practices and equipment, and using them for training. The manager will also ensure coordination of inspections by regulatory agencies, minimize deficiencies, and work with Regional Engineering Leaders and site management on corrective actions. Maintaining logs and documentation for permits and regulatory requirements, reviewing accidents and incidents, and conducting field audits are also essential functions. The role supports the Workers Compensation (WC) claims tracking, investigation, and management process, liaising with the WC Program Manager and benefits group on injury management and rehabilitation. Compliance with EH&S record keeping, including corporate and regulatory requirements, is crucial. The manager will participate in site inspections and third-party audits, travel as required, and develop and maintain the online safety training platform to meet industry standards and OSHA requirements. Collaboration with other service lines and global EH&S teams is expected for program implementation. The role also involves reviewing EH&S-specific policies and procedures, supporting sites in preparing Emergency Procedures manuals, and developing standards for common environmental issues in commercial buildings. Attending new business presentations to discuss EH&S topics is also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Safety, Engineering or related sciences preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in Environmental Health and Safety
  • Safety Certification (CSP or CIH) preferred
  • Demonstrable success in Systems Management across multiple accounts/sites
  • Subject Matter Expertise in EHS and relevant US Standards
  • Well versed in OH&S legislation and regulation
  • Well-developed research and report writing skills
  • Sound Investigative and Auditing skills supported by formal training

Responsibilities

  • Create, manage and lead the deployment of C&W’s EH&S programs across the US, to ensure safety is part of day-to-day operations at each site within the Asset Services
  • Effectively communicate C&W’s safety culture and operating philosophies
  • Assist in the identification of possible losses; evaluate the risk in such loss exposure; develop and implement a plan to correct or prevent a loss; and audit the plan to ensure its effectiveness
  • Maintain and update as needed SOP’s for all safe work practices and equipment and utilize them in the day to day training
  • Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and deficiencies minimized and corrected. Coordinate with Regional Engineering Leaders and site management on deficiencies and monthly safety inspections
  • Maintain all logs and documentation associated with permits and regulatory requirements
  • Review accidents and incidents which occur in the area of responsibility and conduct field audits, report and manage the corrective actions
  • Support Workers Compensation (WC) claims tracking, investigation, and management process
  • Liaise with WC Program Manager and benefits group on all aspects of injury management and rehabilitation
  • Support compliance with all EH&S record keeping requirements, including corporate and regulatory compliance/program documentation, e.g., auditing, training, medical, and OSHA records
  • Participate in site inspections and third-party audits to assure/verify regional compliance with Federal, State and local laws and regulations
  • Travel to corporate and management offices as required
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure the online safety training platform meets industry standards and OSHA requirements
  • Collaborate with other service lines and global EH&S to implement programs and initiatives employed across C&W
  • Review Policies & Procedures process specific to EH&S, as well as support sites in preparation of their manuals for Emergency Procedures and Tenant Emergency Procedures
  • Develop standards and processes related to common environmental issues in commercial buildings such as asbestos, fuel oil storage tank management, indoor air quality, mold remediation and water intrusion
  • Attend new business presentations to discuss relevant EH&S topics
