About The Position

The Homeowners Package Underwriting Manager is responsible for overseeing the performance and professional development of Underwriting team members. This role also manages risk selection, pricing, and servicing of personal auto policies while ensuring high-quality work, operational efficiency, and service excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • At least 8 years of related experience
  • At least 5 years of managerial experience
  • Requires the constant exercise of independent judgment with respect to personnel and claims issues which may have a very significant impact on the Company in areas such as costs, consumer loyalty, team member relations and legal complications.
  • Able to provide technical guidance and educational training to staff. In-depth knowledge of established Company policies and procedures and underwriting operations, and the ability to apply such knowledge in a managerial capacity.
  • Able to motivate, monitor and develop subordinates to maintain a knowledgeable and highly qualified underwriting staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to communicate professionally at all levels within and outside of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the overall underwriting effectiveness and profitability of the branch
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and established underwriting practices and procedures
  • Foster and maintain relationships with agents, vendors, and internal peers such as Sales and Product Management
  • Provide department staff with continuous performance feedback to reinforce desired behaviors. Identify and develop staff that display skills and aptitude for expanded roles and career opportunities. Conduct coaching and disciplinary actions when necessary
  • Ensure quality underwriting work product is produced consistent with strategy, standards, guidelines, service goals, and compliant with applicable laws and regulations
  • Keep up to date on industry and competitor developments
  • Maintain and update underwriting procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements. Continually review automation rules for efficiency and process improvements. Maintain alignment with other states whenever applicable
  • Contribute to the preparation and development of new property products, system enhancements, and forms. Oversee user testing and post implementation analysis and review
  • Other projects that drive process improvement, increased efficiency, growth, and profitability
