About The Position

Dignity Health Medical Group (DHMG) is the employed physician group of Dignity Health Arizona, employing approximately 400 providers and 1200 support staff across a wide variety of specialties. DHMG has experienced significant growth and now offers over 73 subspecialty services. Physicians contribute to clinical services, academic roles, research, and leadership. DHMG is also involved in educating future healthcare providers, with 84 medical school students and approximately 200 residents and fellows in 25 academic programs. Research complements clinical services to enhance medical education. The organization is tobacco-free. As our Manager, Health Information Mgmt, you will oversee health information management/medical record functions for selected outpatient areas. Your responsibilities include ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, providing ongoing consulting services to other departments and clinics that manage their own patient records, and supporting Compliance by delivering training, education, and consulting on patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Success in this role requires effective management of comprehensive health information functions, ensuring regulatory compliance, offering expert consultation across departments, and promoting patient privacy practices. You will maintain up-to-date knowledge of laws, regulations, and industry best practices, applying this knowledge to health information services. You will direct all Health Information Management functions, establish policies, procedures, standards, and departmental objectives, and prepare the department's budget. Maintaining productivity requirements for HIM, directing staff hiring and evaluation, and providing guidance on documentation, record completion, release of information, and record storage for regulatory compliance are key duties. You will also contribute to the Clinical Documentation Improvement Program and serve as a resource for hospital staff, physicians, patients, and families regarding changes to Dignity Health Medical Group, BNI, NTI, privacy policies, and patient rights under HIPAA. Participation in relevant committees and task forces, such as the Accreditation Committee, Forms Committee, HIS Task Force, Quality Council, Revenue Cycle Enhancement Committee, and Faculty Practice Compliance Committee, is also expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree Health Information Management or related field
  • 4+ years Management experience
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

  • Master's degree Health Information Management or related field
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for managing all health information management/medical record functions for selected outpatient areas.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provide ongoing consulting services to other hospital departments and clinics that maintain their own patient records.
  • Support Compliance by providing ongoing training, education, and consulting services in the area of patient privacy, in compliance with the privacy regulations promulgated under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Effectively manage comprehensive health information functions, ensuring regulatory compliance, providing expert consultation across departments, and championing patient privacy practices.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices and proactively applies that knowledge to the health information services function.
  • Directs all Health Information Management functions.
  • Establishes policies, procedures, standards, and departmental objectives.
  • Prepares budget for department.
  • Maintains productivity requirements for HIM.
  • Directs hiring and evaluation of staff.

  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces, including: Accreditation Committee, Forms Committee, HIS Task Force, Quality Council, Revenue Cycle Enhancement Committee, Faculty Practice Compliance Committee, and other ad hoc committees as assigned.
