About The Position

The Manager, Grants & External Relations leads the identification, cultivation, and development of external funding opportunities that support the Endocrine Society's strategic priorities. This role is responsible for prospect research, grant writing, proposal development, foundation relations, grants administration, and donor stewardship. The Manager, Grants & External Relations serves as a key resource in identifying and securing external support for educational programs, clinical initiatives, products, services, and joint ventures. This position also monitors emerging funding opportunities and coordinates proposal submissions and grant administration activities throughout the funding lifecycle. This role works alongside the Manager of Grants & Collaborative Projects and Manager of Grants & Engagement on the management of grants throughout the grant lifecycle. All three positions maintain shared responsibility and skill redundancies related to opportunity identification, prospect research, proposal development, budget coordination, grants administration, stakeholder engagement, and financial reconciliation.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree required.
  • Must excel in a team-oriented environment with consensus-building and collaboration skills, including ability to seek out the facts and pertinent information before drawing conclusions and listening and responding to people with sensitivity.
  • Exceptional research, writing, and editing skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to multitask.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as grant RFPs and peer-review articles; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Appropriate technical skills required for proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, database management, etc., and ability to learn new technology as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced scientific degree or relevant experience in medical education is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in basic, translational, or laboratory-based research is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with statistical software is highly desirable.
  • Experience with the acquisition of CME grant support and sponsorships, understanding and development of continuing education and program planning highly desirable.
  • Experience working with expert faculty and key opinion leaders on developing educational content.
  • Experience writing and submitting clinical grant proposals including needs assessments, gap analysis, program description.

Responsibilities

  • Research, identify, and qualify funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, government agencies, professional organizations, and other philanthropic entities.
  • Systematically monitor requests for proposals (RFPs), calls for concepts (CCPs/CFCs), grant announcements, and funding trends.
  • Conduct environmental scans and market research to support funding strategies.
  • Maintain a pipeline of prospective funders and grant opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Identify educational gaps among healthcare professionals, researchers, trainees, and other target audiences.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and internal program teams to develop funding strategies, learning objectives, project plans, and educational initiatives.
  • Write, edit, and coordinate grant proposals, letters of inquiry, sponsorship requests, and concept submissions.
  • Ensure proposals meet applicable CME/MOC requirements and supporter guidelines.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to secure support for educational programs, research initiatives, clinical practice resources, patient education efforts, policy-related activities, and other strategic priorities.
  • Assist in securing external funding for derivative products and resources, including pocket guides, clinical decision-support tools, mobile applications, patient education materials, quality improvement resources, and other mission-driven initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for joint ventures, maintaining strong relationships, and facilitating ongoing communication.
  • Coordinate collection of supporting materials, including organizational information, budgets, speaker biographies, and other requested materials.
  • Support collaborative proposal development by coordinating partner contributions, budgets, and other required documentation.
  • Maintain partnership agreements, budgets, and MOUs, as needed.
  • Maintain productive relationships with foundation, corporate, and government funding partners.
  • Prepare stewardship materials, impact summaries, correspondence, and funding updates, as requested.
  • Track funder engagement activities and maintain accurate records of interactions, due dates, and communications.
  • Manage the Development & Funded Programs department inbox.
  • Manage proposal development timelines and submission schedules.
  • Coordinate review of final proposals and budgets by relevant stakeholders prior to submission.
  • Ensure adherence to supporter-specific submission requirements, formats, and deadlines.
