About The Position

The Grainger Indirect Procurement team manages over $1 billion of indirect spend for business team members. As Global Category Manager develops and executes category strategies for assigned categories to address internal stakeholder needs and business goals. Leads more complex strategic sourcing initiatives to optimize savings and value for the organization. You will report to the Senior Manager, Category Manager and can be based in either Lake Forest, IL or downtown Chicago on a hybrid (3 days per week) basis. Full-time remote candidates will also be considered with a requirement of roughly 15% annual travel. This role supports the Facilities Services category.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience In Business, Supply Chain Management, or similar field required
  • 5+ years of category management, indirect procurement, contract negotiations, or global sourcing experience required
  • Knowledge assessing and mitigating financial, operational, and contractual risks.
  • Knowledge of redlining and negotiating Master Agreements and Addendums.
  • Experience performing spend and total cost of ownership analysis.
  • Experience articulating strategies and influencing others at various levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience developing and executing global category strategies preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in hiring, developing and retaining procurement and/or other professionals preferred
  • Professional qualification/certification from related professional organizations (CPM, CPSM, APICS, ISM) Upon Hire preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a robust category strategy for your assigned business unit(s) with a total spend under management of $200-$700MM. Performs needs assessment and plans category roadmap to provide senior leaders opportunities in the next 3-5 years.
  • Responsible for complex spend, total cost of ownership and external market analysis, Strategic sourcing strategies, developing and executing negotiation strategies, and drafting and finalizing contracts with selected suppliers.
  • Provide insights and updates on category strategy, project statuses, and market changes to internal stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
  • Monitor supplier industry trends, validate and benchmark costs, and competitive pricing through research and market intelligence tools. Lead supplier stratification program for Grainger’s strategic suppliers including KPI’s, innovation and building stronger partnerships.
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement opportunities, partnering with key business partners such as Legal, Finance, Technology and Security within compliance and risk processes to increase efficiency and results.
  • Using procurement review templates, determine key performance indicators (KPI) and contracted service level agreements (SLA) with annual report outs to key stakeholders.
  • Develop and own Sr Functional leader stakeholder relationships to align on a long-term procurement strategy to supports business leadership in achieving business priorities and goals.
  • Lead and develop 2-4 procurement professionals having global responsibility for building and managing strategic supplier relationships and cost across multiple indirect product categories
