About The Position

The Manager, Flight Training Performance is responsible for measuring and optimizing the efficiency and effectiveness of Alaska Airlines’ and Hawaiian Airlines’ flight training programs. This role oversees a Business Analyst and a Data Analyst, ensuring accurate data collection, analysis, and reporting on key training performance metrics. This role owns the performance measurement and decision-support framework used to evaluate training effectiveness, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, resource utilization, organizational performance, and operational risk across Pilot Training Administration (PTA).

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in flight training, data analysis, or operational performance management.
  • 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Aviation Management, Data Analytics, or a related field or 2 years in lieu of this degree.
  • Strong interpersonal skills facilitating effective verbal and written communication at all levels in the organization .
  • Strong communication (e.g., verbal, written, presentation) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to create collaborative relationships that drive outcomes in the best interest of the company, with others in the organization, and with key external business partners.
  • Ability to lead complex program efforts to completion while managing multiple objectives and tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated accomplishments in conducting complex analysis and cross-divisional projects to deliver results
  • Proven track record of effectively leading/working with cross-functional teams, driving meaningful changes, and developing and mentoring others.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Goal-oriented, with a bias for action and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to execute actions through effective and transparent communication and provide performance results and feedback to all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to remain focused on results while prioritizing competing goals and interests.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in airline operations, pilot training, Flight Operations, AQP, Safety Management Systems, or FAA-regulated operational environments.
  • Experience facilitating Safety Risk Assessments, risk reviews, operational change-management processes, or corrective-action tracking.
  • Experience supporting IOSA, FAA, AQP, quality assurance, process compliance, or audit-readiness activities.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other business intelligence platforms.
  • Lean Six Sigma, project management, business analysis, process improvement, quality assurance, or safety certification.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the Flight Training Performance function, establishing performance measures, governance processes, risk coordination practices, and reporting structures that support PTA objectives.
  • Develops and maintains key performance indicators, scorecards, dashboards, survey tools, and reporting systems that measure training effectiveness, operational efficiency, compliance, resource utilization, risk controls, and organizational performance.
  • Evaluates pilot training performance and operational outcomes, identifying trends, risks, opportunities, and recommendations that improve training effectiveness, business performance, and operational decision-making.
  • Establishes governance frameworks that ensure PTA processes are standardized, documented, measurable, controlled, accessible, and continuously improved.
  • Owns the inventory and governance of PTA Standard Operating Procedures, work instructions, process maps, and operational reference materials, ensuring documentation remains current, consistent, accessible, and audit-ready.
  • Establishes and maintains PTA knowledge-management standards that support documentation discipline, knowledge transfer, process consistency, and organizational continuity.
  • Leads business process analysis, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance effectiveness, efficiency, scalability, compliance, knowledge transfer, and customer service across PTA.
  • Leads the PTA internal audit, quality review, and process compliance functions, coordinating corrective actions and supporting IOSA, (Federal Aviation Administration) FAA, Advanced Qualification Program (AQP), and other audit-readiness activities.
  • Coordinates PTA participation in the Safety Management System, facilitates Safety Risk Assessments, tracks risk mitigation actions, and partners with Safety stakeholders to support organizational risk management.
  • Maintains project and initiative governance processes, providing leadership visibility into project status, milestones, risks, dependencies, corrective actions, and organizational priorities.
  • Oversees development of analytical models, forecasts, dashboards, survey programs, and decision-support tools that improve planning, resource allocation, performance management, and operational decision-making.
  • Leads and develops a team of business analysis, data analytics, and performance professionals, establishing priorities, performance expectations, coaching plans, and development opportunities.
  • Partners with leaders across Scheduling, Records & Qualifications, AQP, Training Operations, Flight Training, Safety, Finance, Information Technology, and other stakeholder groups to improve organizational performance and achieve business objectives.
